Mini Meatloaf

My wife asked me to cook meatloaf on the Egg and I got pretty excited that we were gonna get smoked meatloaf. She prepped the meatloaf while I got the Egg up to the 375. When I came to grab the meat to throw on the grill...I see "Mini Meatloafs." They were hamburger sized and shaped meatloafs. Despite my surprise, I did my job and threw them on the grill. I cooked them at 375 for 15 minutes, brushed some BBQ sauce on them, flipped them and cooked for another 15 minutes.

My honest feedback: meh. It wasn't meatloaf and it wasn't a hamburger. There was some smoke flavor but it didn't cook long enough to be ideal smokey. I think I should have cooked hamburgers or a full meatloaf...not these. I might actually throw some bacon and cheese on this and put it between a bun with some BBQ sauce when leftovers are consumed.
Another lesson learned...

Those are mini mini. Look like the perfect size for a mini egg. You couldn't convince her to combine a few of them? to make 2 or 3 larger mini loaves?

I had a fleeting thought that I could mash them together myself before I threw them on the Egg. Not having tried meatloaf from the Egg in any form, what if this was the best way to consume meatloaf and I was about to have my mind blown?!Griffin said:Those are mini mini. Happy wife, happy life. -
Might try to figure a way to go indirect . . .Lrg 2008

Just a thought. As Griff was saying combine a couple or three......Then make thicker and wrap with bacon. Going to give that a try.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

i do meatloaf flat in a pan brownie style sometimes, i think it helps to have the grease in there when its thinned out. have also packed them in jalapenos and they were good

@StelIarEvo have done Chorizo Meatloaf sliders before at Eggfests. I elected to do them indirect @ 325-350 to allow for more smoke time. I had 3 different glazes and applied 3-4 times during the cook.

Those look great. I think my issue was my brain seeing "burger" and tasting "meatloaf." They were juicy and cooked right but I wasn't expecting what I got. Had I been sold Chorizo Meatloaf Sliders, I would have been very satisfied with the results.Hotch said:@StelIarEvo have done Chorizo Meatloaf sliders before at Eggfests.
