A better grate for my BGE?
SmokyArkie
Posts: 65
I am looking for a grate for my BGE that is less prone to rust. It seems I cannot keep these from rusting once I start using them. Surely with all of the experience on this forum there are some great ideas out there!
Thanks

Do you have the older porcelain covered grid? I have not heard of the newer stainless ones rusting.

I agree with @bettysnephew! The only way stainless can rust is if it gets pitted and then scraped with a ferrous tool meaning the iron is softer and fills the minute pits and then that rusts.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I have seen surface rust on stainless at the food processing plant where I worked. Turned out someone had brought in steel wool from home to get a nice shine on the tank. It took some time to figure that one out as the sanitizers we used for cleaning did not ever corrode the stainless. The rust came from iron particles embedded during the scrubbing. Somebody caught hell for bringing unauthorized material into the plant that day.

High que makes the best one I have seen. Expensive though.

How often do you use your grate? How often do you run a clean burn?

Mikes custom grates is another option. Expensive just like hi que. Same thing, basically.
