Handle wood type

Anyone know what species of wood the stick handles are made out of????

got a close up picture? I've replaced all of mine with custom handles from the LawnRanger, but I recall 2 of them was ash but one was clearly oak and another could have been hickory. I imagine the wood species was random and came from whatever trees got to the sawmill that day.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I'm thinking it's oak. I'm thinking of staining it and sealing with Spar polyurethane.

No - I don't think that is oak since oak is very porous to the naked eye. As wide as those growth rings are on the end shot shows it is a fast growing tree and from a wet region and probably a soft wood at that. You should be fine using stain and the spar poly. I believe the bands and handles are made in China now so that wood may be none that we can identify in the US.DaveRichardson said:I'm thinking it's oak. I'll have to go with @nolaegghead on this one.... If it's mahogany, I might just oil it up.....
It was starting to get a little dirty and cruddy. Gave it a light sanding with 400-grit and it looks new and smells like a bunch of slow cooking pork butt!!!!LBGE since 2014
