Handle wood type

Anyone know what species of wood the stick handles are made out of????

    got a close up picture? I've replaced all of mine with custom handles from the LawnRanger, but I recall 2 of them was ash but one was clearly oak and another could have been hickory. I imagine the wood species was random and came from whatever trees got to the sawmill that day.

    I'm thinking it's oak. I'm thinking of staining it and sealing with Spar polyurethane.

    No - I don't think that is oak since oak is very porous to the naked eye. As wide as those growth rings are on the end shot shows it is a fast growing tree and from a wet region and probably a soft wood at that. You should be fine using stain and the spar poly. I believe the bands and handles are made in China now so that wood may be none that we can identify in the US.

    I'll have to go with @nolaegghead‌ on this one.... If it's mahogany, I might just oil it up.....

    It was starting to get a little dirty and cruddy. Gave it a light sanding with 400-grit and it looks new and smells like a bunch of slow cooking pork butt!!!!
