Thanks for posting....been waiting to pull the trigger on these open box sales.

Why the heck would anyone need a second Thermapen.  Why, it's almost like needing a second egg, second gun, second car, second motorcycle.  How can it possibly be justified?  I personally have bigger fish to barbecue - how can I justify a third Thermapen?  Last year I justified a second based on the backlight...

I got my Thermapen the last time they had an open box sale and the one I got looks and performs good as new.  If you are on the fence on getting on, this is a great opportunity.  Jump on it!

If I had to do over I would have gotten the back lite model, just my 2 cents

Man, I just ordered the ThermoPop from them for $24.00. I don't think the wife will go for this. It will be here next week. I will let you know how it works and last. My cheep $17 one didn't last long. Battery died fast, replaced it and it worked once.

I gotta share with Wilma. Seriously thinking about a backlit version.

I just ordered a Thermapop and an infrared gun this morning, tempted to get a timestick too! Already own an original Thermapen + a spash-resistant one (2nd gen).

This thread is selling a lot of product. I just bought one too. I need to see how much better it is than my Maverick instant read (that I will keep as a back-up).

I bought a refurb and it failed in less than 2 years. It is being covered under warranty for $25.

Thanks thats good info, I would have been covered by my AMEX for 1 extra year in your case. But $25.00 doesn't seem unreasonable either. @QDude Does that give you any new warranty though?

You don't need two of these for personal use, trust me. Also, the lighted one is not necessary in my opinion unless you are half blind and/or don't have a cheap flash light. Resist the temptation to buy two and save your coins toward a temperature controller, AR, CI cookware, or something else that will diversify your beloved hobby.
