First Pizza Attempt
Working around the house Saturday morning and my wife asked what I was cooking this weekend. Told her I wasn't sure, so she suggested pizza. Didn't have the time or knowledge to make my own dough, so I ran down to Papa Murphy's and picked up (3) pizza's (1) $5 sausage, (1) $8 thai chicken & (1) $11 taco. Figured I would start with the cheapest and work my up
Got the egg up to around 500 indirect, raised on BGE stone. First up the sausage pizza, tried taking it off the paper plate it came on, to put it on the peel, and quickly realized that wasn't going to work
So I put the pizza and paper plate directly on the stone. About 5-6 minutes later I was able to remove the pizza from the paper plate, barely. Let it go about 5 minutes longer and removed. Toppings were cooked perfectly but the crust needed alittle more time.
Next up the Thai Chicken, still 500 indirect, but lowered the stone to grid level. Left this one on the paper plate for approx. 8 minutes and was able to slide directly to the stone very easily. Let it go for about another 4 minutes and removed. Toppings and crust were perfect!
And finally the taco pizza. Same set-up as the Thai chicken. The crust on this one was alittle thicker so I left it on a couple extra minutes. I don't think I would do that the next time, because it was on the verge of being over done. I think part of this was due to the stone gaining temperature. Also don't think it made any difference taking the pizza's off the paper plates and will try just leaving them on next time.
Overall, All three turned out good, but the Thai Chicken was my favorite, not only because of the cook, but it was very tasty!

How is the taste using the egg to bake them instead of the oven, is it crisper? I've had fresh made pizza crust and it was the best.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

Very nice pies my friend! But for the life of me I can't visualize an $11 taco.
Oh I think I get it now. If you bought the pizzas complete and just baked them in the Egg that's cheating.

Not sure exactly how to describe the difference but they tasted different in a good way! Might be the smoke or the quick cook time?Ladeback69 said:How is the taste using the egg to bake them instead of the oven, is it crisper? I've had fresh made pizza crust and it was the best.XL & Mini-Max

Yes, cheated but they were very good! Will get around to making my own when I have the time. Just up to my ears with work, son's baseball and trying to finish the outdoor kitchen. I've got about 16 hours into polishing the concrete countertops and probably have another 16 hours left :-<berndcrisp said:Very nice pies my friend! Thanks. I cook the Papa Murphy's pizza's @ 500-550 for 8 minutes, on the paper plate they come on, then slide them off the plate and onto the stone for 4 minutes. This seems to work best for me!XL & Mini-Max
