Little caveman help

Just fired up the egg to try a caveman ribeye. Do I slow cook it first like a reverse sear or do I just throw it on the coals for a couple of minutes per side? Any advise is appreciated.

I have never done it that way but here is a thread from @hapster where he threw it straight on the glowing coals. http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1167057/happy-father-s-day-cook/p1-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Only time I did it was directly on screaming hot coals for a couple minutes, pick it up, shake it a bit (to get any coals off), flip it, and measure til done. Pull it and give it a quick brush to get any ash/coals off.South SLO County

Right on the red hot coals for about 2-3 mins a side depending on how thick it is and what IT you are going for...MSV Chill Spot

Thanks. I will pull the grate and let her rip. Might have to replace gasket later. @rrp

Just did one. Sitting on couch recovering from the meat sweats. I did as others suggested with about 2-3 minutes a side. Will do this again.

Looking forward to trying it. Swmbo is away for the weekend so I wanted to give this a shot solo before cooking it for her.

If it's super thick then you can reverse sear it otherwise just throw it on the coals and check the temp now and then.

@ hapster thanks it was that difficult just time consuming with the finish. The ribeye is resting now.

@rrp no apologies necessary. The bad part about making that table is that swmbo wants me to build some more stuff. Next on the list is the storage cabinet. It will complete the set. Egg table, patio set and the storage cabinet.

Well the steak turned out pretty good. The best I've made so far. But plenty of room to be had. This one was a little under cooked. Swmbo would not have liked. On the plus side, it turned out very tender.

I personally think that steak looks just right!! You may try a cooling rack next time instead of a plate, the plate seems to pull to many juices out. I don't have a rack yet but use skewers laid across a plate to keep the meat from touching the plate.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Maybe because I'm posting from my iPhone. On my phone, the small version is sideways but the inserted version appears normal. Sorry but I don't know how to fix that.

@RRP - this bugs me to no end as well, but it's not you or your computer. It's actually most likely the forum software (Vanilla) that doesn't know that the picture was taken in portrait mode - which is common on phones The picture file has an 'orientation' indicator in the file but this "Vanilla" forum software isn't using that info when it saves/displays photos. The site software just looks for the longest dimension and makes that the horizontal. So anytime anyone puts up a picture from a phone taken in portrait orientation, where the vertical is longer than the horizontal, the picture gets rotated.Kempy said:Maybe because I'm posting from my iPhone. True, however, you can drop the file into Paint (or another imaging program), save it under another name, and It will correct whatever that indicator is and post it correctly, even if the dimensions are the same.
I have no idea why, and it's usually more trouble than it's worth.

Take pictures with the home button towards the right. This seems to fix posting issues.

If you're cooking super hot, like caveman, and the meat is thicker, you can flip it frequently and it'll cook more with less burning. Wear gloves and babysit it. Take temps frequently. Don't be afraid to take the meat out so you don't melt your thermapen or whatever.
