There should be a sliding "clip" on the adapter plate. You slide it down on the plate, install the plate in the short orientation, then slide the slider up to snug it tight. Then close the draft door and screen back against the adapter. If you are missing the slider piece, that would explain it.

I did a first cook with my controller. When you go low and slow man....it takes a long time with that temp locked in. I was @ 225 for some baby backs and me opening and closing the lid numerous times, learning my controller did not help.
It was a good first shot with the controller and the thing locks that temp in, well worth it IMO after this cook.
All the other times I.did manual the temp at some point crept up or down at some point.

Well, strange things happened but are ok now. Turned it on at 225 degrees and it went to 250 and the fan kept going to maintain 250 degrees. Figured Id bump it up to 250 to get it to shut off and it started maintaining 275 degrees. Shut the unit off let the egg cool down and set it at 200 to see what happened. Maintained a perfect 200 degrees, bumped it to 210 and it maintained a perfect 210. Bumped to 215 and then 225 and it is locked in on the money at 225 degrees.  Going to foil 3 hours into the cook at 3:30 and hoping everything is probe tender at 5:30.

@jllbms....Yes, there was an adapter sleeve that wasn't on the bracket that was laying in the box under packaging material. Also no directions were sent with adapter for the BGE. I think someone in quality control missed it. All is well now.
