When Eggs Fly - SoCal Egg Fest

First off, a big thanks to Shad, Nadine, and the whole crew at Outdoor Kitchen Creations for hosting the SoCal Egg Fest!  It was an excellent event - lots of great food, excellent, informative presentations, and fun for all in attendance.  It takes an incredible amount of work to put on an event of this scope, and the whole event was flawless!!!

I've been kicking around the idea of a Medium BGE to complement my XL for a while.  I contacted Outdoor Kitchen Creations, and though they didn't have any MBGE's listed as once-baked demo eggs, they were able to substitute a Medium for a Large.  Sooooo - long story short, I was able to score a once-baked Medium.  I live a couple hours north, and while driving was an option, hey - this Egg Fest is on the Cable airport in Upland (near Ontario).  It is a half hour flight, and the weather was ideal.  I was a little concerned about loading the egg into the airplane, and a lot concerned about unloading it at home.  Brad and his crew took care of the first part.  After we got it loaded into the front seat, we took the shelves off the egg mates to make closing the door (and flying the airplane) a little easier.  I also removed the firebox, fire ring, grids, etc., to facilitate unloading.  Unloading was not a big issue  - I had a friend help, and without any effort it was in the car.  The scariest part of the trip was the 2 mile drive home from the airport.

The egg and I arrived unscathed, and the GFU and I wheeled and carried it to the back porch to join the XL.  There is definitely something very wrong with a virgin egg.  That problem will be rectified tonight.
