Pork Shoulder cook time

I've got 2 6lb pork shoulder butts. Cook time should be? Cook time for 6lbs or 12 lbs of meat?

It should cook a little faster than a whole 12 lb chunk of meat, but will take longer than a 6 lb chunk. There's a lot of factors on how long it will take. What temp are you cooking it at?

Unless they are tied together, should cook like a 6 pound butt. Just make sure you cook to temp (195-205) and not time. Don't be surprised if one finishes before the other. Every hunk of meat acts differently. If one finishes early, FTC it.

Unusually I cook pork shoulders around 250. I was just wondering if two separate pieces cooks differently than one big peace the same weight.
  • I just put my two on this morning. I put my digiQ temp prob in the smaller one and then will start checking them both closer to the finish line. I like to wrap in butcher paper after I see the fat cap split. I also spray a little apple cider vinegar throughout the cook as well. Enjoy the pork!

1.5 hr per lb, based on the largest single shoulder weight plus another 15-20% in time should do the trick.

I just did 4 butts on my large last weekend. They were between 6 and 7.5 pounds. Took the first one off at 15 hours, the last one at 18 hours. 250-260 dome the entire cook. Best butt's I ever cooked. I used a Dr BBQ recipe.
