How to set up WOK on small egg

I have a Small and a XL. I was thinking about getting a wok to learn to stir fry. My wife is half Japanese and is dying for me to learn to stir fry. She offers 0 actual Asian help and her grandmother has passed away with all the recipes/knowledge.

So, it's up to me!  I'm thinking the small will be better to learn on than the XL. Smaller wok, less fire roaring etc.   I have the small woo ring for my small and am willing to get whatever else I need. (if you think I should go with the XL please let me know)

I've gathered I need a 10" wok and a stirring spatula thing. Do I need anything else?

How will I put this in the small? using the woo ring? on the grate in it's normal position?

What's the advantage to a hammered wok? (or disadvantage)

That much I got, just need to know what to buy.  I have seen a lot of conflicing info and nearly every wok thread refers to large eggs.

This is a 12" carbon steel round bottom with metal handles in a Small Woo: photo 9A3A1855-2124-4951-B3D7-511C22E9EC5D-2851-0000057090B4E745.jpg

    Or specifically this: http://wokshop.com/store/detail.php?show=37

If you have the Woo with handles I hear the handles interfere with this size (or bigger) woks. You might need to just put the grid on the fire ring and use a wok ring to hold your wok. I've used a 14" wokshop cast iron wok on my small with Woo (without handles) with no issues.

Hmm. worst case scenario I'll cut the handles off my Woo.  Thanks for the feedback.  Glad I didn't go ahead and order a 10"

I have a 14" carbon steel as well as a 13" paper thin cast iron wok (in pic). Don't use either as often as I should. For my wok "stove", I use an old, rusty Weber chimney starter with a wok ring. Keep meaning to buy a nice new one, but...

I don't see my chuan on their site but it looks like this one is geared towards a 12" wok: http://wokshop.com/store/detail.php?show=507

You don't want a chuan that is too long as the shape and width of the "blade" won't match the curvature of the wok very well. If in doubt on what to order, call the Wok Shop and Ms. Tane or her brother Randy can guide you to a set that will match your wok.

I ordered both the 12" and the 14".  I got a wok ring just in case and picked up a bamboo cleaning thing, a chuan and a hoak.

Looking forward to learning to stir fry!

I found some with suggestions on what size wok to use it with. Thanks for taking the time to help me out! I bought the exact wok you linked!

Howdy. This may not be helpful to you @Thatgrimguy, if you have already ordered the gear you need. My current setup for the small egg  is a wok ring on a lowered grid, then the wok from World market. I don't recall the size, but I can measure my wok when I get home, if you like.

That would definitely help. I got the wok ring just so I have some options.  In fact, I also have a turkey fryer. Maybe I'm better off using that.

@Thatgrimguy‌ : it's 14" measured across the top rim of the wok.
