Brisket prices

Okay I just want to vent. Stopped at a grocery store on the way home from work on Friday afternoon thinking it would be a great weekend to make a brisket. Imagine my surprise when I spotted a small package of trimmed brisket about 1lb. Price? $9.49 per lb. So I go to the guy behind the counter "Do you have any whole briskets?" He shows me two cryovac packages about 4 lbs each and says "This is what we get from the distributor". Still thinking brisket would be tasty I ask him "How much are they" He tells me $7.99 per lb. So I got two ribeyes at $8.99 per lb and they were very good. I live about 30 miles west of Minneapolis. Has anyone else seen prices like this? <Rant off>

Get used to it. Beef going to higher prices due to drought causing ranchers to trim herds due to lack of hay etc. Pork will be going up due to virus that is killing young pigs. Supply and demand.

I went by Wegmans(East coast, Mid-Atlantic up to NY) last night and flats that are usually 5.99/lb are up to 6.99/lb. Almost all beef there was 1 to 1.50/lb more expensive. I'd guess it will take 1 to 2 years to stabilize once the issues resolve. Best bet is to get a side of beef from a local farm/Butcher.

$9/lb is almost sickening. I thought $3.30/lb was high. Hard to belive that a couple years ago it was nothing to find untrimmed on sale for under a dollar per pound.
