...and mine is usually for wings. Decided to go with garlic parmesan this time since I haven't done them in awhile and I don't think I've ever done them for the Mrs. 400 raised indirect to avoid the fat dripping on the coals and producing lots of smoke. Been my go to way to do chicken lately.

image

The wife was craving collards, so I wasn't going to argue. In a moment of weakness, I decided I wanted some fries with the wings. To balance that out, I skipped the beer. I'm not drinking during the week anymore, but its hard to have wings and not a beer.

image

Next time, I think I'll skip the fries and have the beer instead. The fries really didn't hit the spot like I was hoping, but its been so long since I've had any. Also, while I like the garlic parmesan, I missed the heat from buffalo wings. Think I'll go half g. parm and half buffalo next time. Give it some variety.

BTW blood sugar was only 112 this morning. Down but still need to go down further. Still, tons better than it was and its not an overnight change. Diet and exercise, diet and exercise.

And another BTW down to 175lbs! High school weight!! Had to go buy new pants and shorts the other weekend as nothing fit anymore. Dropped 2 sizes. :))

Great work and great news, Griffin. Being a road warrior, weight management for me is a CONSTANT struggle. It's hard to pass up good eats when someone else is picking up the tab ;-)

Just checked my calendar. Don't know why I said over a month. Should have said 2 months.

Thanks @radamo. I will for sure.

@otter I know what you mean. I was really getting into making homemade bread and it was so tasty. Dang, I miss it. Not that big of a sweet fan, but I miss my salty snacks like chips. Now I reach for some almonds instead. Try the Blue Diamond Smokehouse ones. Pretty tasty. Good job losing 16 lbs! Keep it up.

@Cymbaline65 I'm sure it is. Just opt for healthier selections and don't touch the bread or chips and salsa they put on the table when you sit down. If I know I'm going to eat bad for dinner (ie going out and know that I am going to splurge), I make sure breakfast and lunch are super healthy.

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

+1 on those. They are my go-to snack.

@Griffin: I do the same thing - balance light/healthy for not-so-light/healthy but it's still a struggle. Especially when I'm in a foodie town (like NYC). I'll often opt for a suite with a kitchen sometimes so I don't stray too far.

Supper looks great!! Congrats on the weight loss and no cigs. I've been on the better eats and exercise for about 5wks and dropped 15lbs still got a few more to go to hit my goal but everything is starting to be habitual now so it is getting easier to stay on track.

@Cymbaline65 those are great ideas. Glad I'm not on the raod all the time. I don't know how you do it. I know this sounds too easy, but try taking more steps every day. Park far away in parking lots. Take a 5 minute break if you can at work and just walk around the building a few times a day. Use the stairs instead of the elevator. Every little bit helps.

    Thanks @TexanOfTheNorth

@buzd504 I've had them in the past but can't remember if I like them. Almost grabbed some yesterday at the store. Will do next time.

@Mattman3969 that's great. Once it becomes habit, it becomes easier. I'm gonna order that vegetable pasta slicer thing you suggested. Thanks for the recomendation.

Another thing I try to do is drink tons of water. Take your weight, divide it in half and try to drink that many ounces of water a day. Keeps you full and flushes out your system. Hard to do. I don't think I've ever reached my goal on that one.  I have one cup of coffee in the morning and the only thing I drink the rest of the day is water.

Well, I always pack workout clothes and I make sure any hotel I stay at has a gym. I try to get in 3 workouts in a work week. I also still mow my grass with a push mower (that equals a workout!) and try to insert movement into my life. Still, I love the things that my body does not. I can go without bread and pasta is down to twice a month. Now, beer, wine and spirits? Um...that's my Kryptonite.

Great looking cook Griff and good job on the new healthy life style.

Quick question on the wings.  It looks like you did a dry rub of parm and garlic?  Have you tried making a parm and garlic sauce like the one from BWW?

@saluki2007 the rub was thyme, rosemary, oregano, cumin and salt with some baking powder to crisp up the wings and when it was done, I applied a garlic parm sauce. By BWW I assume you mean Buffalo Wild Wings? You got a recipe for their sauce? I'd like to compare it to mine.

@Mattman3969 Dang!! Let's see if I can pass it off as pasta to my wife. She loves her pasta. If not, I'll make it for myself and she can do her own pasta.

@Cymbaline65 its my Kryptonite as well, but I gotta keep my BS down so its only on the weekends now.

    :(

Griffin unfortunately I do not have a recipe for their sauce.  I actually have not messed around too much with making my own sauces.  I have been more focused on creating my own "great" rub for my wings.  Think I'm pretty much where I want to be.  Will probably focus on creating sauces this summer.  I have just been buying Kroger brand wing sauces.  They taste just like the BWW (Buffalo Wild Wings) sauces they sell, but a little bit cheaper.

Those look damn solid. I haven't fired egg up in 3 weeks. Haven't been home to do it. The wife said she walked by it yesterday and it growled at her.

The wings look pretty damn good as usual, but special kudos for the lifestyle changes! Losing the weight and the smokes will pay BIG dividends in the long run.
