I'm considering the use of a pelican case for my Maverick and DigiQ. It rains so much here in the Asheville area that it would be very prudent to invest time and a little money into something. I would modify the case with cable glands so that probes and power could exit the case cleanly.
Anybody here have any tips or ideas?

I've had the same idea, I'm just not at the point of dropping the cash right now! Post pics of your end product!

I put my DigiQ in a 9" cake pan. Then, I put a the lid of one of these over it. Works great. Free. Well, not free, but I already had the stuff.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Something that would need protection is the power strip. http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/06/wet-circuits-waterproof-power-strip-presented-by-all-time-best-d/
These fools could have used it safely....

Piece of cake! Great idea. I think I'm over complicating this.... Or my OCD is coming back.Carolina Q said:I put my DigiQ in a 9" cake pan. Then, I put a the lid of one of these over it. Works great. Free. Well, not free, but I already had the stuff.

I drilled holes in the hard plastic, and the yellow part is actually a soft rubber/silicone liner that can be removed...I cut little slits into them. This is not waterproof, I wouldn't drop it in the pool, but I feel it is splash/rain resistant. I am under a patio, but rain can get in, so I just wanted something to keep it dry.I think the pelican case was $12 on Amazon.

A simple solution - sandwich or quart sized ziplock bag with the "open" end at the bottom, zippered around the wires to the greatest extent possible. I've successfully used this approach a number of times.LBGE - St. Louis, MO; MM & LBGE - around 8100' somewhere in the CO Front Range

It's been a few years since I put that together and it is still in use with no issues. However, I've since added a patio cover so it no longer gets tested by the rain like it used to.Canugghead said:You can spend big $ on Pelican or get a cheapo Rubbermaid ...

The rubber maid method seems quick and easy. I'll keep you posted. I wish DigiQ had a militarized version of the controller / blower with heavy duty silicon exterior cover.

What type of cable glands are you going to use?CosmicVoyager said:I'm considering the use of a pelican case for my Maverick and DigiQ. It rains so much here in the Asheville area that it

Sorry if I'm missing something, do you really want to have all the cables permanently attached to the box and sticking out? What about storage?canuckland

If you really want protection, you can buy a NEMA 3R or NEMA 4X enclosure at a electrical parts house.

Slightly OT, but not worth its own thread: I left my Polder outside accidently last weekend, and it got rained on directly, then a *&%^! bird crapped on it! I brought it in, wiped it off, and let it set a day or so, it still works! That thing is about 15 years old, still with its original probe, and I use it for everything except my overnight cooks. Kudos to Polder!Love the Tupperware idea above, thanks!

This is my set up. I bought the box at Walmart for $8 and borrowed

I put my DigiQ in a zip lock bag open end hangs over the table. If it is a hot day I use my wielder glove over the top reflective side up. Just my $0.02.
