Lighting the egg

I have a couple simple questions on lighting the egg (I have an XL) and can't seem to find them answered directly in prior threads. Probably user error on my part but here it goes:
1. I typically fill my egg with Lump and hit it with the loof lighter in two or three spots around the center to get it started. After I hit it with loof lighter should I leave the dome open for a while to get the fire burning? Typically I close the lid but leave the bottom vent open and leave the top cap off until I reach the temp I want then and fine tune. This process doesn't take more than about 10 mins if I am cooking between 300-400. Should I be letting the fire get more established before closing the lid?
2. When following the above process but cooking indirect, when should you insert the platesetter? From the get go or after the fire gets going?
3. When cooking pizza, when do u insert the platesetter and the stone? Feels like it takes forever to heat up with both in.
4. Finally, when adding wood chips or chunks with direct or indirect, when should I add them?
Sorry for the long post but hopefully there are others that can benefit from the answers.

I light the egg and close the dome while the vocs burn off.
I insert the platesetter after I have an established, clean-burning fire. I put the meat on once I have a locked-in, stable temp.
For pizza, I put the PS and Stone in when I have the established fire and wait for about 15-20 minutes while the stone heats up.Ball Ground, GA

Everyone has their own way.Ask 10 people you'll get ten answers.
I use starter cubes and leave the dome open until the fire gets going then I close the lid..maybe 10-15 minutes.
When doing pizza at 400-500.I close the dome until it gets to desired temp .Then I put the Plate setter and pizza stone and let them heat for about 30-45 minutes.

I light the egg and leave the dome up for about ten minutes until I am sure that the lump is well lit. Then I close the lid and let the vocs burn off and monitor to make sure that I do not over shoot my target temp. I leave the dome cap off and use the lower vent to regulate the temp unless my target is low and slow. In that case I put the dome daisy wheel on to help make fine adjustments.LARGE, MINI BGE SAN DIEGO, CA An alcoholic with a barbecuing problem.
