Fried Chicken on the Mini BGE (pix)

First time using the Mini BGE as a fryer tonight.  My wife made some Paula Dean's stovetop mac n cheese to go with.  I wouldn't recommend doing this on a Large BGE.  The diameter on the Mini's grate is very similar to the diameter of an average indoor stove burner.  So the sides of a standard CI skillet extend slightly past the opening for the fire underneath.  The benefit of frying on the Mini is that your whole house doesn't reek of fried meat for 3 days.  ;)  Worked perfect and it will be my go-to for frying from now on.  The set up was the Mini Woo with the standard SS grate on top.

The chicken was seasoned with Seasoned Salt, Cracked Pepper and Cayenne Pepper.  Then, it was dredged in Flour, dunked in an Egg Wash, and finally dredged in Panko Bread Crumbs.  Fried the chicken covered with a slightly cracked lid (my DO's lid that happens to be a similar size for my CI skillet) for 5 minutes per side, then uncovered to finish for 5 min per side at around a 350 deg f oil temperature.

The Mrs'es Stovetop Mac n Cheese.  Lawdamercy it's good.....=P~

And our meal....  I've been dunking my fried chicken in ketchup since I was little. Don't hate.  ;)  :D

And here was our second batch of fried chicken that cooked up as we ate our dinner.  :)

And dessert.  Strawberries are fresh for us here in South Carolina right now.  We picked up a bucket of fresh strawberries from Sease's Strawberry Farm earlier today.  =P~

Not much tops fresh vine ripened strawberries.  There were strawberries under the cool whip as well.  ;)  And topped with caramel sauce.  It was a good Saturday.  :)

=P~ =P~

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

OMG this meal looks amazing.  I have been wanting to fry chicken on my XL, but have yet to try it.  I have the woo2 and a CI skillet.  I have been inspired!

@TexanOfTheNorth‌ , yup! :D Only thing better is ketchup on a fried pork chop. It's my thing, as weird as it may sound. ;) Also put ketchup on my eggs.

    I'm not judging.  :)

Have you ever tried honey on your fried chicken?

Was at a new restaurant in Fort Worth that serves fried chicken with both apple butter and jalapeño vinegar for dipping. It was amazing.

Nice!!! @Mickey‌ , I just picked up some oysters, shrimp, taters and corn on the cob after seeing your response earlier. :) They're gonna hit the mini here in a coupla hours. Can't wait! @TexanOfTheNorth‌ , the CFS may happen next weekend. :) I do white gravy on my CFS instead of ketchup. ;) and I have used honey on fried chicken too. Good stuff!
  • I was actually going to mention the cream gravy for the chicken but went with the honey instead. I always do gravy with fried chicken or cfs. Usually biscuits too.

I'll look forward to seeing your CFS post (whenever it happens).
