Moving my egg

I have a large BGE in a wooden table that sits on my pool deck and isn't covered. It has been that way for approx 10 years now. The legs of the table are really starting to rot, to the point I'm afraid the table will collapse. I have begun the process of getting another table but want some advice on the easiest method to transfer the egg from one to the other. Has anyone else undertaken this move? Do I break the egg down?

Use a potlifter - it helps me with moving mine.

Take it apart and move it. Great opportunity to install a new gasketGreen egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN

i would take it apart if lifting it high enough to drop in a hole in a table
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
Thanks for all the great comments. I'm not sure about the pot lifter though especially as I would have to really get it high to insert in to the new table hole. As for taking it apart, are there any major obstacles to overcome as it it has been together for all those years?

The pot lifter is a great way to go. Mind you, if you also have an engine hoist ...

Jeff, YouTube it. Several good videos wwalking through it. If your new table top is stone or metal line the hole with cardboard. I did it by myself.Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN

Remove the top cap, loosen the top band and remove the dome. The spring hinge will want to keep the top band up, if this is a problem loosen the bottom band and remove the whole hinge. Take out the innards, fire ring and fire box. This also gives you a great opportunity to clean everything out. It will now be in manageable pieces to move. I would still get someone to help you.JeffYoung said:Thanks for all the great comments. Since the table is rotten. Cut away the table top around the BGE. That should give you plenty of access to slide something under it or take it apart. I would take it apart. Then you can handle it easily and give it a good cleaning. Spray some PB Blaster on the bolts. You only need to loosen the top or bottom. Good luck!XL BGE; Medium BGE; L BGE

A skid loader also would work. Or an articulating boom lift....

Was in the MotherShip 2 weekends ago and this topic came up when someone came in. The consensus amongst the staff there was to clean it out and remove the innards to put the egg on a diet to make it more manageable. Then reach in from the inside and grab thru the ash door and lift away.
