I know normal Cowboy sucks, but saw this in the supermarket in Michigan this past weekend, and wonder if anyone has given it a shot.

My feeling is if they can't make a decent regular version, why do their upgraded product?Flint, Michigan

i believe its the old version of cowboy made with flooring scraps which was a very good lump. buy some and see if its tongue and groove, if it is its a very clean burning lump and i would like to see them bring it back

I'd try it, myself.
I have had good and bad bags for every charcoal that I have ever used. Royal Oak was top notch for the longest time. Then suddenly for a half year, Royal Oak was horrible, and Cowboy was perfect. Then the opposite for what seemed another stretch of time.
I'd try Wicked Good, and Wicked Good was wicked good for a while, then just Wicked OK. Big Green Egg would be great, while Royal Oak, which is what BGE Charcoal actually is, would be horrible.
Changed back to RO when it got better, and when BGE started thinking their charcoal was valuable, and raised the price. Maybe they think it is a bag full of starter diamonds?
Now, I buy whatever is there, whatever is cheap. No one charcoal is always universally bad. Sometimes you just get a run of bad stuff. I find it awful hard to make sweeping pronouncements about a brand of charcoal. The product is natural, and varies.
