New Egg - Do I need the Chimney Gasket?

New Egger here...

I got my new LBGE last week and per the instructions, I put a strip of felt gasket (included in box) around the chimney. Well the temperature got away from me briefly during warmup to 650˚, but then I got it back down to 350˚ pretty quickly and held it there for about an hour. Well at the end of the cook, I removed the DFMT and the felt tape came with it. I've cleaned up the sticky residue, but at this point, I'm wondering if I should even bother replacing it. BGE Co. is sending me a replacement. But should I bother?  It sounds like the only real advantages of the tighter seal are so that the ceramic top 1) Snuffs the fire more quickly, and 2) doesn't fall off as easily.

 Will I miss it?

Thanks!

And for the record, here's a picture of cook #2 - Some Turbo Ribs. They were presentable for my first ribs - But...1) need to re-orient them to avoid the hotspot in the back that charred them, and 2) Need to find another source of ribs - these were pre-brined & way too salty.

I've never had one on mine.  Forget it.  Rule of thumb, IMO, is the Daisy wheel is not needed for most cooks - especially those over 325 degrees.  I rarely use mine.

not needed.  The back is the hottest part.  Orient them side to side. or put some foil under them.

I don't use my felt gasket on the top vent.  It may help the cool down happen quicker.  Also, I use the DFMT most of the time.  With it I keep my Bottom vent open less than 3/16ths of an inch for 350 or even less for 250.  Without the top I couldn't keep it below 350.  Yesterday, I was doing a brisket at 250 degrees and went fishing. I called my wife because I forgot to put a bowl of apple juice on the grate.  When I called back later the temp was 275???  It hardly ever fluctuates that much.  When my wife opened the lid to add the juice, the DFMT slid open and air was getting in and raising the temp. She didn't realize that happened.
