I've never used them. They are designed to go under a chimney to start the coal. But I think I could use them right on the coals in the Egg.

I used the egg brand starters a while back, and after the free box ran out I'm back to using oil paper towels. I would imagine they would work fine for a chimney also.
-
I use a weed burner, real easy and real fast!
-
I used the webers and Bge ones before getting a MAP torch. I liked them both. The webers are great because once lit, they won't go out.
-
I use the Rutland starters that come in like 144 to a box for about the same price as the BGE 36? count box. They seem to work well.A poor widows son.

I use them for lighting egg at eggfests. Work fine

Back in my Weber days, I used a chimney and the weber paraffin lighter squares. When I first got my egg, I used the Looflighter, and it works much faster than the chimney method. But then I reluctantly decided to try the weed torch with MAPP gas. It ROCKS!!! http://www.amazon.com/Bernzomatic-19425-Self-Igniting-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00008ZA0F/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1395500670&sr=8-4&keywords=bernzomatic+torch Once you try it, you won't go back.Santa Paula, CA

I use the Weber's, like 'em. I usually light and then go prep, Egg is usually there when I'm ready. Use two or three if want to crank the Egg up a little faster . . .

I use the electric starter. I don't have to pull old lump out of the egg, just cram it under, pour on some new lump, plug her in and 7 minutes later remove it.

I started with the wood/paraffin blocks and got a looftlighter for Christmas. Love the looftlighter. Way faster, easier, and nothing to have to buy, or worse, run out of!Pittsburgh, PA - 1 LBGE
