Cleaning Cast Iron

Can I use a stainless steel brush on a Cast Iron grate? I assume not but want to know for sure.

What are you trying to clean off of the grate? I use a stainless brush all the time with no problem.
If you are trying to get rust off an electric brush & drill will work better.
