How many leave your house while the Egg is lit?

I don't like to leave the house with the laundry or dishwasher running, so no, I don't leave with things on fire.

I worked for a recovery company for awhile, and you would not believe the cost of damage from water leaking out of appliances.

Most spectacular was the 4th floor apartment that blew the washer supply line in the middle of the night while the people were away. Most apartments were occupied, but for some reason not home, and the others were asleep. When I got there water was coming out of the balconies like waterfalls.

I had my BGE in a wooden table on a wooden deck from 2006 to 2012. Never had any problems nor did it cause me any concerns .... of course I was not a member of the form then & didn't know any better. We moved in 2012. Its still in a wooden table, but the table is on a concrete patio next to the brick wall of our house plus I have a Stoker. Still sleep good at night and have little concern when I go off to the store because I forgot something, which happens quite often.

Good post op. I am sure many don't think of this as I didn't and I plan to build a wooden deck.

I personally leave all the time but feel very comfortable as of now with a digi q and nests in the grass.

I'll leave it for awhile. 30 minutes. Maybe an hour. But mine is in a nest on a concrete patio away from the house. You might see it under my patio in pictures but that is because we have a tree that drops a lot of limbs. I'm more afraid of damage to the egg from that then burning down the house.

I understand that nothing can be done regarding an Egg cracking and spilling glowing coals to the table or deck short of metal or stone construction, but would a screen over the top vent not prevent any embers from being ejected there similar to the bottom? The flame proof liquid cabinets we use at work feature this and I recall that forestry approved mufflers for small recreational vehicles have the same setup.

I have an Egg on a Trex deck. I am going to build a table. Would it make sense to build pavers all around where the egg (i.e. make a box within the table where the egg sits?) plus line the top with something nonflammable ?
