Mini Love

I realized last night that January has almost come and gone and the Mini hadn't been fired up once, so I decided to give it a little love. I braved the 42 degree temps and fired her up. Actually, I just tossed in an oiled paper towel and walked back inside and waited for about 10 minutes. Came out, closed the dome and adjusted it a bit and went back inside for 5 minutes. Came back out, checked the temp and made a final adjustment. Easy peasy.

I never said I was doing anything fancy. Just some hot dogs. First time trying the Hebrew Nationals. They were on sale so why not?

Gotta toast the buns

Throw on a bit of chili, some mustard and some of the sharp cheese that I cold smoked awhile back. And of course ya gotta have the tots. Love me some tater tots. :x

Not gourmet, but still pretty darn tasty and its always fun to cook on the Mini. Might have to brave the 50 degree temps tonight and fire her up again. What to cook, what to cook?

Nice Griff. I threw some dogs on my mini last night too. Love that thing. I did a 4lb spatchcock on mine the night before. Came out great, and made chicken salad with it. Mini needs more love man!

@TUTTLE871 like I care about Sonic's problems when we can all make better burgers on our Eggs and make our own tots? But then again....I can't make a Route44 cherry limeade slush...

If I cant find the Nathans they are what I go for. and Like the Whataburger (that's all we buy now).
Salado TX & 30A  FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

We don't buy hot dogs very much. Usuallys its Nathan's, but these were on sale so I said why not try them? Not to shabby and cured my cravings for a good chili dog. @Mickey - all we buy now is the Whataburger ketchup. Haven't tried their mustard, but will when we run out of what we got.

@NDG get your mind out of the gutter. =))

@caliking I might have partaken of one or two. Or more.

@Conneggticut_Yankee I'm sure you scoff at 40 degree weather, but to this Native Texan, raised in South Texas on the beach, it's still mighty cold. I have not been happy waking up to temps below 20 this week. But we man up and do what we gotta do. ;)

I tried to grill some shrimp on the mini last week. I couldn't get the temp up and wasn't in the mood to clean it out as 3 hungry mouths were watching me. Saute it is!

    FIRST RULE OF SOFA CLUB:

Don't piss off SWMBO or you'll wind up there.

    SECOND RULE OF SOFA CLUB:

Don't let SWMBO know there is a sofa club or you'll wind up there.

On that note, I need to upgrade my grate.

Make sure you have a comfortable sofa so if you do wind up there you will still get a good night's sleep.

Don't tell anyone if you can't get it up.

(sorry Eggy- you kinda set yourself up for that one.)

Have you tried sticking a paper towel soaked in oil through the bottom vent and lighting that and let it burn 5-10 minutes. That's how I start mine these days. Keep a stash of paper towels in a sandwich bag pre-oiled and ready to go at a moments notice.

I use a map torch. No issues prior to this, I'd just stir the charcoal and blast it for 30 secs in 2 spots. Up to temp in 5 minutes. It probably just needs a good cleanout but I wasn't in the mood to fiddle with 200 degree charcoal after trying to light it for 20 minutes.
  • 42 degrees? We're at 25 now and it feels like beach weather compared to what we had the past month! Nice cook.

I'd hope so. That's heat stroke weather. We do
a fever work up when patients hit 38.5.
