Favorite reason to use the AR or the Woo2

FWIW my AR has only been out of my egg for a couple of cooks in the two years I have owned it. I found that cooking raised direct stopped the flare-ups that occurred every time I opened the top when I cooked on the level of the fire ring. Other than multi level cooking and searing, everything I do is raised, both direct and indirect. I also purchased the grid extender that I use when cooking pizza. While I have never cooked on a plank, I'm guessing that the extender would probably be good for that kind of cooking as we'll.Nerk Ahia LBGE

The reason I got my Woo was for cooking raised direct. I had tried using bolts, but when I would try and remove my Salmon the grate would fall into the egg. The Woo keeps everything in place. Well worth it.

It seems like a lot of options to choose from. Ive been looking at them myself also. I was thinking about the woo for my small and an AR for my large. Its just kind of confusing with the different ones. I have a PS for the large so I wouldnt think I would need the stone?

Figuring out where the Woo2 and the AR can best be used takes some experimentation. Looking at the CGS website is a good first step, and looking through the many threads here is also helpful. What I've found is that it depends a great deal on what size BGE you are using. The options on the XL aren't nearly the same as the large. Both definitely add flexibility to different types of cooks, and there is quite a bit of overlap in functionality. I originally purchased the XL Woo2 to get the grid up to the felt line, and provide a spot for the indirect piece or BGE 18" CI grid. I very rarely remove the Woo2.
Then I thought hmmmm, I like cooking ribs flat on the SS grid, but always run out of room. I could use the XL AR for cooking on multiple levels and eliminate use of the rib rack. And it is great for that. However, if you don't have the Spider, you need to either use the platesetter, and lose direct access to the lump for adding smoking wood, or use up some of the levels with the indirect piece, making it harder to accomplish multiple level cooking. I thought it would be perfect to use the AR on top of the Woo2, but that only works if you use the BGE SS grid - again losing access to the lump. Nothing is ever easy. But it is fun, and the experimentation is also enjoyable, as long as you don't look at each cook being the "perfect solution."

My favorite reason to use the AR is the ability to cook on different levels. Raising the grid up high in the dome makes a world of difference for so many cooks. Of course this is just one of the many benefits of the AR
