No worries @Stlcharcoal. I appreciate the intel...stlcharcoal said:Cymbaline65 said:Dang @stlcharcoal.. Windemere is still a haul. My local Ace is in Cumming off of Browns Bridge. It will have to wait until I can make it out there..maybe in a few weeks...Thanks for checking and giving me the places check out.I'm showing my [lack of] knowledge of the greater Atlanta area.

I brought it up on the map, and it looks like Windermere is your closest--then Marble Hill, then Gainesville. Call ahead of time to be safe.

Peoria, Chicago, Michigan, New York, etc........[if] they call, we ship. Outside of St. Louis, I do not actively recruit new dealers--I get tons of inquiries off the website and TNW. I've been contacted and given quotes to retailers all 50 states (yes, including HI and AK), but often the shipping cost drives people away. You really need to order 2-3 pallets to make it work. It's just a matter of them pulling the trigger and trying it.
What some guys another city did was got a BBQ store buy a pallet, but they already had 2-3 people taking most of the bags and splitting the shipping. They got their charcoal at a good price and had a place for delivery, the shop got to try 10+ bags nearly risk free since someone else was paying the shipping. I do not set any of that up, I just quote and ship it. So, get a few friends to commit to X amount of bags, then talk with a few shops about it.

I've seen it on Firecraft.com, but has anybody ordered it from them. I'm afraid after all the shipping it'll just be a bag of dust. That was my experience the only time I've ordered lump online (not Rockwook by the way). Live near Bristol, VA and last time I checked, no dealers close to me. I'll keep checking and hoping.

I've ordered from Firecraft a few times and have generally been pleased, but I do think there's a touch more dust than there might otherwise be. Still, it's a good resource for good charcoal. I'm ordering from them again soon.SWVABeanCounter said:I've seen it on Firecraft.com, but has anybody ordered it from them. I'm afraid after all the shipping it'll just be a bag of dust. Thanks. I'm getting a few Christmas gifts from there for others so I'll just pad the order with a few bags.bicktrav said:

Rockwood is great stuff. Unfortunately, they don't ship to California, so I can't get my hands on any. Got my first bag from Firecraft because they made a mistake and shipped it anyway. They've wised up since.Southern California

I might not be able to get brisket anywhere around here for $2/lb like some others do in other parts of the country; but I can order Rockwood and pick it up in under an hour the same day with no shipping costs

Whereabouts are you? I can look back at the inquires and see if anyone in that area has ever expressed interest in becoming a dealer. Talk with your local BGE dealer--have them contact us.insaneh said:I'd like to try it. Seems the closest dealer to me is 500 miles away.

I'm in NH. My dealer is about 50 minutes away. I usually try to combine my business when I head that way and buy about ten bags.

Just got back from Ace and they have about 30 bags on the floor next to their BGE display. Picked up 2 bags at 21.99 a bag. The BGE lump was 24.99. They had more Rockwood than the green egg stuff. Glad Im 20 min away from them. The sales girl said they used to sell Wicked good but just changed to RockwoodJefferson .GA.Been egging since 1985 on a medium egg

This was my experience. My phone decided to delete every picture on it or I would show you how it arrived. I can't blame Rockwood or Firecraft but I doubt I will be ordering any more unless I can get a pallet order together and even that is not much cheaper after shipping. Maybe if they could stack more then 30 bags like Wicked Good will do the cost per bag would get better.
I know I am in the minority here and will probably get trashed but I don't see enough difference between it and RO to justify the difference in price.

I did order one bag and could tell a big difference. One, it burned off the VOC's and was ready to cook on in half the time it took RO. It lasted alot longer than RO. Last but not least it had a better flavor on the couple cooks where I didn't add wood chunks. I'll be happy to pay the difference.

I have to admit some of the RO I have gotten lately takes longer then it used to take to burn clear. Really though, I have been mixing the RO in with the large chunks of Wicked Good with very good results. If I could get RW delivered and not have a bunch of small chips I would most likely buy some just because I like to have a variety of different charcoals.

Truer words have never been spoken! I'm a big believer in buying what's readily available, and of reasonable quality. However, a pallet buy is a pretty good deal, and worth it IMO, provided you have a loading dock available, and some other factors. I'm pretty happy with how our recent group buy turned out.Hungry Joe said:Charcoal here is like a religion.

Group buy you say? Hmm, any NH folks roaming about in here?

Two pallets of 30 bags each does not cost any more to ship than 60 bags on a single pallet. They are stackable, so we pay the same based off the dimensions vs. weight (approx. 1300# and 40x48x100".)
With as thick as our bags are, when we get above 35 bags, the pallet looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. With 30 on each pallet we can stack them in the truck.......no leaning and they can be wheeled through a standard height double door with a pallet jack.
