LBGE too new for burgers tonight?

SWMBO wants a burger tonight, but my new Egg only has 2 relatively low heat cooks on it.  Looks like y'all tend to go high heat on the burgers but I don't want to fry my gasket.  Do I need a few more cooks to break it in before I get it that hot?

    I'd say go for it! Ask the dealer for a new updated gasket before this one goes bad. Or just go Rutland from the start. Don't let the garbage felt gasket slow you down. If your gasket does fry up you can go gasketless until the new updated gasket comes in

    You will be just fine just don't let the egg go nuclear.  Since you haven't cooked very high temperatures before don't let the egg sit unattended with the vents open for long.  All it takes is a few minutes and a egg can jump 300-500 degrees easy with the right air flow.  
    I raise my kids, cook and golf.  When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.
    Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.

    I wouldn't worry about it - no need to go over 500 for burgers anyhow.  Just make sure it doesn't get away from you.  If your Egg is new, it has the new high(er) temp gasket, and should be just fine.  Enjoy!!!

    When I first got my egg in '09, I did what "they" said to do, no hi temp cooks for a while. When I finally did one, I lost my gasket. And it wasn't even all that high as I recall. Replaced with a Rutland and haven't had an issue since then. 

    Might as well get it over with.

    I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

    FWIW, I don''t personally care for high heat cooks on burgers.  I basically just "grill em" at 400 or so. I just don't think ground beef benefits as much from a high temp sear as a solid hunk of beef.   

    That being said- I agree that if you are ready for a high temp cook then go for it.  I personally don't buy the whole "break in" thing.  The break in only applies to the adhesive, and so far my fried gaskets had nothing to do with adhesive.  The gasket material itself fried :).  Like Carolina Q said- no matter what you do, if it is the old felt gasket it will probably fry anyway. 



    Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

    I say grab some burgers and beer and hammer down. I think burgers was my second cook and didn't hurt my gasket at all.

    I'm new egg owner.  About 2 months into it.  Anyway, I've started my high heat -- pizza -- after 3 cooks.  Still have my original gasket and it does not look like it's falling apart for that matter.

    I think you're going to be fine.

    Last year in Salado I witnessed the unthinkable. Midst the conversation and alcohol an egger let the demo run the thermo around to about 1000. The nomex gasket was fine. It wasn't me. Nola (cough)egghead (cough)
    Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN

    As henapple pointed out. It will not hurt it. The "old gaskets" was not helped by slow start. They burnt up or not. Just use it, don't baby it.
    Salado TX & 30A  FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

    As mentioned aboe, 400-500 is a good range for burgers.

    Please do not get caught up in the higher temp is cooler. You do not have to cook pizza at 950/1100 period........ My pizza is just fine at 550 with the pure max of 600 because I was not watching .

    Agree with everyone. Might as well go for it. You bought it to cook on it. Although I do just look at mine from time to time.

    My first cook was burgers. It didn't hurt the BGE or the gasket. I think worse case, you mess up the gasket and buy a better replacement gasket for a few bucks.
