I've used sassafras chunks on pork butts before. I really like it. Let me know how you like the mulberry and black walnut. I have one each of those trees on my property.

Tony is there any difference in tossing a package size amount of say cherry chips and same amount of your product on the lump?

@Mickey ....I think he got those just for using in the A-Maze-N smoker. Somebody gave me a bag of hickory pellets about a year ago and I threw them in the egg one day. Don't remember what I was cooking. I do recall that they smoke pretty good but don't last all that long. But chips don't last long either.

I have put the pellets in my mini for smoke a lot. Works great. Say when I get near a bottom of a bag and not enough to really fill the AMS. In the mini they go.

Cool. Do you know if those are flavored pellets, or actually made from the wood?

If this is directed to me, they are just the pellets from AMS. If addressing @henapple he is passed out drunk and you will have to wait until Monday for an answer

http://lumberjackpelletsonline.com/index.html. give these a try. They are made in Wisc. and are all natural wood. Seth from the bbq pellets online store has been the best customer service rep that I have ever delt with. I even got an email from him tonight saying my 10 pound box would be delivered tomorrow. A++++ product and will answer your questions in less than an hour. I ordered from them new years day and Seth emailed me back and forth that day. Now that's great service. Todd from amaze smoker sells a custom blend of these same lumberjack pellets

I hate to  have less lump in my box than most but is cold smoking just smoking at very low temps?
    Or…. what?

I found this post on another site and figure I would post what he said.

I use Lumberjack. They are made in Wisconsin. I use the 100%. So if the bag says Hickory they are 100% hickory. BBQ delight came with my smoker and they produced twice the amount of ash the lumberjack does. Plus I get more smoke from the lumberjack than I did the BBQ delight. I see alot of people use the BBQ dlight and like them and that is good. I just do not prefer them. Plus I live close enough to where the Lumberjack are produced I get them cheap. I had my buddy take Traeger, BBq Delight and Lumberjack bags and I gave him 3 5 gallon buckets and put the pellets in them and not tell me which were which. I did a burn at 300 degrees 15 pounds each brand. In the end I could tell which pellets were which. The traeger brand produced the most ash, then BBQ delight and then lumberjack had almost nothing for ash at the end. The Traeger and BBQ delight had enough ash to vacuum out at the end. I used Hickory in all 3 brands. I do know that BBQ delight and Traeger are only 30% hickory and the 70% is what I call a filler because I like burning 100% pelllets

Do you smoke the pellets 'Colorado' style? :)

@mickey, no lump used, just the little fire from the embers of the pellets.
