I have a new injector, have not used it yet. Doing a pork butt next weekend to make sliders for a Christmas party. What would be good to inject into the butt? I plan to serve dressed with a vinegar based sauce.

Try Wicker's...Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN

When injecting a butt, I think it is best to use something salty and tangy.

The local egg dealer here has Butcher BBQ pork injection that I really like. It's more of a flavor enhancer. Keeps the meat super moist even when doing turbo. http://butcherbbq.com/store/en/injections/59-original-brisket-injection.htmlLBGE, Weber Performer. Located in Franklin County Pa.

Found the Lilly recipe. I like that I can make it myself. Reviews say to cut the amount of salt though.XLBGE, Small BGE, Homebrew and GuitarsRochester, NY

From Myron Mixon's book Smoking with Myron Mixon
- 4 quarts apple juice
- 1 quart distilled white vinegar
- 5 pounds sugar
- 2 cups salt
- 1 cup monosodium glutamate, such as Accent brand flavor enhancer
Preparation
In a large stockpot, combine the apple juice and vinegar over medium heat. Stirring continuously, pour in the sugar, salt, and monosodium glutamate. Stir until the seasonings are completely dissolved. Do not boil. Remove from the heat.
If reserving for a later use, let the liquid cool; then pour it into a large bottle or container. Store refrigerated for up to 1 year.

Make it simple , strained Italian Dressing . Be sure to strain it or your injector will clog up !

Here is the Chris Lilly recipe:I made up some of Chris Lilly's Pork Injection as follows:
3/4 C apple juice
1/2 C water
1/2 C white sugar
1/4 C table salt
2 TBS worschestershire sauce
(NOTE: this recipe is for 2 butts. I made a double batch)Shamelessly copied and pasted from another forum:-Jody Newell (LBGE & a 36" Blackstone griddle).

I think this guy explains the steps involved very well, and can apply to the Egg, except for the part where he has to mess with the vents all day. I too just got an injector, from the Amazon sale, and too looking for my first injection;

I've made a lot of pulled pork and never injected it. Never had too. The rub and the smoke flavor is enough......... Just back on here after a couple of years. Moved to Fl and just bought a new egg. Question, how do I post on here? Thanks Mark

I like a simple injection for pork. I take a cup of apple juice and add 2 Tbsp of the rub I use for the butt. Sometimes, less is more.

Is apple cider the same as apple juice in your opinion? Seems to me it would be preferable, and it is in season!XLBGE, Small BGE, Homebrew and GuitarsRochester, NY

I have used the Chris Lilly recipe quite a few times and have had nothing but compliments. I have always injected my pork butts so I can't really compare the two. It only take a few extra minutes to inject the butts so I always do it, can't hurt

I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Thank you that was very easy. I've been away too much

Last time I did a butt I injected it with maple syrup....seemed to add a nice flavor. Not sure if this is good or bad but going to try a combo of maple syrup, a nice smokey scotch this time.
Anyone else every try scotch?

Scotch? I never would have thought of that. Bourbon? Yes. Scotch? Nope. Let us know what happens.Flint, Michigan
