how to calibrate my new dome Tel-Tru thermometer

Just got my new dome thermometer and what is the best way to calibrate it

    Get a pot of water boiling and insert your thermo (not toughing sides or bottom of pan) -should read 212*F at sea level and a little less the higher the altitude. ( I'm happy with around 210*F at about 700' altitude. You can google the altitude off-set but likely "close enough").  If not reading close to 212*F, note the difference and then use the nut on the back of the thermo to dial the needle to eliminate the off-set.  Once adjusted, check again.

    While you're at it, check the digital thermometers for accuracy the same way; Mavericks, Thermopens, etc.

  • It may be easier to read the Centigrade scale. One hundred is boiling at sea level.

  • Calibrated it. It read about 190 in the boiling water so I adjusted it until it was a tad over the 210 mark.
