Cleaning entire egg?

How often do you take out the fire box and ring and clean all of the ash out? I did that this morning and was surprised at the amount of ash that was behind the fire box. Granted, it was the first time I have ever done this and have had my egg for about 9 months. I usually just use my shop vac through the draft door. The ash buildup has not caused any issues, but potentially could if it built up even more.

I do that about every third or fourth cook.

Maybe twice a year and I use mine at least twice a week. It's also a good way to check for cracks and find them before they totally break.

before any long slow cook to make sure clean lump, good fire and good air flow to maintain temp. it makes a difference and is much easier to control the long cooks at low temps

My small and mini are cleaned out regularly. When I travel, I clean them out so they cool down quickly. My XL is cleaned out every 2-3 months.
