Nest and Wings Stability or table ?
Comments
-
i have the medium sitting on the nest, with the 2 side tables and it's very stable. i put a turkey on the one side table while getting the grids situated & its very stable & no rocking at all
i keep my egg in the carport (covered from dust) and all i have to do, is pull it out by the handle & get ready to cook.
a table would be nice, but takes up too much space in a carport.
i hope that helped

Larry soon to be a egger,[p]Congrats on your soon to be status. The nest is stable and will pose little risk to you and your egg under normal conditions. My large and small eggs each sit in a nest. The call either use the nest or a table is entirely up to what you want.[p]Welcome to the group,

Larry soon to be a egger,
Just purchased a medium Egg to go with my large. I have the nest and table wing set up. It seems to be quite sturdy. I was worried about that too. But they gave me an offer that I could not refuse and it turned out well.

Larry soon to be a egger,
Stability isn't the issue; work surface is.[p]Ken

Larry soon to be a egger,
You could always opt for the "direct" method. Mine sits on the patio without the feet.[p]Dennis

Larry soon to be a egger,
I agree with Bluesmoke. Its not what holds the cooker but the surface it's on. Both a table and a stand are stable but the surface either sits on is key.
Now its an issue of style you prefer.
You can get good deals from this link. It's where I baught my BGE table for $200 less then from a dealer with free shipping

Larry soon to be a egger,[p]Once you have an egg you will probably want to build a table, but think about this IF you plan on moving it occasionally: We had a large BGE in a table for several years. That egg has ended up in a nest and the table was burned in our fire pit. Even though we have a new table, the large eggs now sit in nests. During, or before a cook, I can roll them under cover when the weather is bad; and they are easier to transport from, or in, a nest.[p]We do a little bit of competing. Removing BGEs from tables and replacing them is not an easy job. You can put wheels on your table for a bit of mobility but then you have a different set of problems (trailer; bigger truck).[p]Just my 2¢ worth....[p]Mrs. Appledog

Larry soon to be a egger,[p]I got a large with the crate and wings this spring. I don't think stability is an issue at all, regardless of lid position and/or an unbalanced load on the wing(s).[p]I'd like to reinforce a couple things others have said:[p]For me work area is a major issue with mates. I would rather have a large table. I was used to the surface I had on my webber and that was fine, but on the BGE I've found myself needing more space for the more creative cooks I find myself doing.[p]Second, the wheels are great. I keep my egg in the corner of my deck and the mobility makes it easy to clean up spills etc. I've also been able to wheel it closer to door for cooking in the rain.[p]Next spring I'll probably end up building a work surface (with lots of storage) to put next to the egg. I might even take off the mates.

Larry soon to be an Egger,
I got the large egg with the nest and the wings. I also use a small metal table next to the egg. The whole setup is on a paver patio. It is very stable and the nice thing is that I can change or adjust the location of the egg easily. I had considered a table, but it doesn't have the flexibilty of my current setup. Regardless, the most important thing is to get the egg. And how you set it will be determined how comfortable you feel. Good cooking.

That's a pretty good 2 cents, Julie. See you in a couple of weeks in Atlanta.[p]Puj
