BGE Lump?
Options
I am smoking my first boston butts on a large Egg this weekend. Plan to go low and slow and my past experience (on a New Braunfels) tells me to prepare for 12-15 hours. How long will a full firebox of BGE brand lump last at 225-250 degrees? Should I start additional lump to be added in a chimney starter, or can it be added directly to the coals that are already going? Any egg-wisdom would be appreciated.

BigWorm,
A large egg will easily last that long on one load of lump. I have had a cook of 20 hours without having to add anything to it.

BigWorm, Check the link and read Elder Ward's version on how to work the lump for pulled pork. Some sound advice there. It comes from the recipe section, link above on main forum. Good luck. Tom

BigWorm, you will have plenty if you ignore what it says in the manual about loading it level with the top of the firebox. Load it up to within an inch or two of the top of the firering. You will have some type of heat deflector in there and you will not have a flaming fire so all will be well. I have cooked for 20 hours on my large and still had lump left over at the end.

BigWorm,I've smoked at 225 with a guru for 22 hrs and had enough lump (royal oak) left to burn another 4 or 5 hrs
