pre-heat cooler?

CJ,
Put a few gallons of hot water in the cooler and let it set for about 10 minutes...Pour out the water and put the food in.

CJ,[p]If you feel like investing in a new cooler, they make electric coolers that run on 12v DC for travel and 110v AC. They can be used to either heat or cool, +/- 40 degrees outside air temp. Perfect for holding pork or brisket.

CJ,
If you wrap a large piece of meat in foil and then in towels, there probably isn't a need to preheat the cooler. I've kept butts for 4 hours in a cooler and when taken out, it was still too hot to pull barehanded. Preheating would probably only be necessary if you are going to keep something small with little mass warm, or if you needed to keep something for quite a long time.[p]TNW

YB,
I agree with YB. I use this trick all winter when my coolers are cooler than normal:)

YB,[p]Yep, I go to the bathtub nearest the water heater and let the water run till it's good and hot. Then I fill the cooler to the rim and leave in the bathtub for about 10 minutes like YB said before dumping the water back into the bathtub. A quick wipe with a towel and the "cooler" is pre-heated for keeping brisket or pulled pork hot for hours.[p]Make sure you use towels to take up the empty air space in the cooler like the Whiz recommends.[p]Works every time for me.[p]Cheers,[p]Gm

Crumpled newspaper also works well.[p]Toy Man

CJ,
I made a "Resting box" for my briskets and butts and the only time I used it I had two large butts in it wrapped in foil and towels. It was so hot we couldn't hold it when pulling the pork five hours later. It was a cheap cooler too. No pre-heating or anything. [p]Spring "Hot "N Cold" Chicken

Spring Chicken,
Here it is with the lid open.[p]

Spring Chicken,
Do you have plans for the resting box...looks great and the cooler os not an eyesore....
-

jdad2many,
Thank you. If I can ever get over this eye problem I plan on making a matching trash holder. This one has been used more often to hold cold beer than hot meat.[p]Anyway, here's a photo of the inside. If you are even halfway handy with a saw and hammer, you can make one of these. Look for someone who is tearing down a cypress or cedar fence. I'm sure they will be more than happy for you to haul it off for them. If not, you can buy new cedar fencing at Lowes or Home Depot. It's best to use non-rusting nails or screws. Even better, use some waterproof glue on the main joints.[p]Good Luck[p]Spring Chicken

Toy Man,

CJ,
Will that not make the "cooler" a "heater"?
-
Charles in SC™,
Yep, I guess the key to 'cooler' is that it's an insulated container...so it can go either way.
-
Spring Chicken,
Extremely neat looking outfit!! Looks like your into the 'Smokin'' big time!! Thanks
-
CJ,
Thanks. I try...[p]Spring "Sawdust Designer/Smoker" Chicken

CJ,We pour about a gallon of hot water in the cooler and let it set closed till we are ready to use it. Drain the water and it will stay hot a good while. We have gone to the Extreme 5 day coolers and they, along with the heat of your product will keepit hot a while. You can also also crinkle up newspaper to feel the left over space.
Hope this helps,
Poppasam
