Picked up some Fire&Flavor Burger Grilling Planks at Lowe's the other day and thinking about giving them a try tonight.  Has anyone cooked a burger on a plank before?  Just curious if grilling on a plank adds extra cooking time to the burger since it isn't sitting directly on the grate?

you can certainly do it, but a burger cooked indirectly is essentially a meatloaf.  it would take longer to cook, because you are roasting it instead of grilling by direct searing.

i like smoke with my burger, but i just add wood to the fire as i'm searing.

the plank is usually for adding smoke and protecting the meat (fish, often) from the too intense heat of a direct sear

Thanks.  I gave it a shot and wasn't liking how they were cooking so I took them off during the middle of the cook.  Burgers still turned out great but i won't be purchasing again.

make some mash taters and add alot of cheese to it, chill them over night and cook on the planks, best plank cook out there
