cooking mushrooms and onions- help! :)

So im wanting to grill some onions for the umami burgers im going to try tonight and i want to do some stuffed mushrooms.. i have a black porcelain container with holes im guessing that i would use?? just put them in it and close the grill? cook the mushrooms a little first..then add filling?
im used to the stove
please help!

I use a perforated basket, just because it makes them easy to handle. No reason you can't do right on the grid.

it worked well on this grid and they were tasty! I orded a small cast iron container too ill have to try out.
