Fire Box has slight wobble

My firebox has a little bit of wobble and it's very annoying once everything is put on top of it. How do I correct this issue?

First thing I would do is take the firebox out and set it on a level surface somewhere to make sure it's the firebox that's wobbling. Could be a bump or rise in the base. Try it say, on the garage floor and get down and look at it close to try to see where the gap is between the floor and the box. Move it aound to a few diff places and make sure the low or high spot stays in the same place, because now your dealing with a garage floor that could not be level. When you truly narrow it down and know it's the box, try to take a measurement or guesstiment so you can know just how bad it is. Maybe even some pics would help. If it's a bad wobble and you just bought it, call your dealer or take it to your dealer and request a new one. If they fail you, then call the BGE store and ask them for help. They sometimes do wobble slightly and a twist back and forth kinda seats them better. It shouldn't wobble so bad that your grate moves around as your flipping stuff. If you have no warranty and bought it used, their are ways you could fix it yourself. When you find out where it has maybe a high spot, you could sand it down. Bad low spot you could maybe build it up some with a ball of JB weld. You get the picture. Good luck!

Also if your looking for a more simple right now fix, just set it in the egg and wedge a wood chip between the wall of the base and the top lip on the firebox. This should sure it up.

That's a great idea I will try that out tonight and it's new I've only had it a month or so. Thanks!!!

I guess that bring up another question. I noticed last night if I jammed the firebox into the wall of the egg the wobble went way down. Does having the same amount of space around the entire firebox from the egg itself matter?

I wouldn't think that it would matter. Maybe slightly but not enough to tell.

That little wobble and "against the wall" is something I went through as well. Having had the Egg disassembled through a few moves and taking it places, I never noticed a wobbly firebox. So it is probably the inside of the base of the Egg is not level. I have been able to spin the firebox and be a little off center to compensate. Not ideal but we are not talking surgical instruments, this is thanks to Mexico and "just replace it" BGE Q&A policy.

I just got a new firebox under warranty and noticed the same wobble. More irritating than anything else. Pretty sure mine is the firebox as no wobble with original. I might try a piece of gasket on the bottom of mine to see if that helps.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html
