It was 101 F in the shade this afternoon, and I didn't even try to go on my west-facing back porch to grill tonight. The rolling "egg nest" that I bought with my large is really cool, I just rolled her to my east-facing carport for my cook (still damn hot, though).
Anyway, I ended up emptying my first 20-lb bag of BGE lump into my Large, got it going, and when the steak was ready to go on I noticed a rather large, bright ember leaning against the mesh screen. My carport is cement, obviously, but my back porch is wood, and I understand the mesh is a fairly recent addition to the Egg.

Something to think about...

  • That is the reason when I cooked on a wooden deck I had a fire mat under and in front of my BGE. After I had ember jam itself between the boards on my deck. :woohoo:

Before screen draft door a member was cooking on his driveway, an ember popped out into the garage and the house ended up burning down. It was about than when screen doors were shipped on the eggs.

That house fire from fireworks in Daybreak last night was across the street from my daughters house.

The one time I left mine open for a bit more draft a hot small piece fell out and landed on the front board of my prudy table, about a nickel sized char spot on it now. That was the only...and last time I will ever leave it open.
