Looking for ideas for no-tomato BBQ sauce. Cooking dinner for my brother and sister-in-law tomorrow, and she's allergic to tomatoes. Wanted to cook some chicken.

Just what the doctor ordered. Great on poultry and pork. Back off on the chili if you want it mild. Apply after the cook.
Sauce, BBQ, White, Holy Smokin' Chipotle, Southwestern, Richard Fl.
Recently was at the Tampa Hard Rock Casino and they had a great plate of stuffed portobellos with grilled chicken, saffron jasmine rice and a chipotle sauce to die for. After recently hearing ads for Burger King Chipotle whatever and Subways's Southwestern Chipotle, I took up the challenge and very happy with the results. Hope some of you like it. *****These portions will make about 2 1/2 plastic ketchup size squeeze bottles. Keeps well inrefrigerator.
INGREDIENTS:
24 Ozs Dukes Mayonnaise
7 Ozs Chipotle in Adobo Sauce
7 Ozs Apple Cider Vinegar
2 Whole Hatch Green Chiles, Roasted
4 Ozs Favorite BBQ Sauce
2 Tsps Holy Smokin' Chipotle Seasoning, or any chili seasoning.
PROCEDURE:
1 Place in a bowl and puree with a stick blender. Place in a plastic squeeze bottle to use. Refrigerate any leftovers.

Heck, serve it up right off the cooker. There should be enough good flavors hanging around that sauce won't be needed.
If you want to add something, make some herb butter. Just go lightly when you drizzle it on the finished chicken. You don't want to over-shadow your efforts on the Egg.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
Oops. I forgot to mention that I try to keep things low-fat too. Mayo won't work for that. Not sure about the favorite bbq sauce either. My favorite has tomato in it.

I had never heard of a "White" BBQ sauce until May this year. I was introduced to a recipe very similar to the one on the link below that was really good with chicken and the cook that made it said it is great on pork. He did recommend letting it rest over night so that the flavors can develop.
We were using it as a dipping sauce the day I first tried it.

White BBQ Sauce
Ingredients
2 cups mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ground black pepper
2 tablespoons salt
6 tablespoons lemon juice
6 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
4 tablespoons white sugar
In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, pepper, salt, lemon juice, vinegar and sugar. Mix all together until smooth. Use to baste chicken, pork chops or ribs as they cook on the grill. Serve extra as dipping sauce!DavidBBQ since 2010 - Oh my, what I was missing. -
Just saw you post about fat, I have been using an Olive Oil based Mayo that is very good, or you could go for one of the fat free ones although I can not vouch for the flavor.DavidBBQ since 2010 - Oh my, what I was missing.

Go for fat free mayo and use your favorite rub in place of the BBQ sauce for flavor.

I thought about that too. I may just do some with and some without, or put together something with olive oil, vinegar, something from Dizzy Pig, and some chopped onion and garlic.

Hey Dan you could try to go with a Carolina vinegar based sauce. There are many versions out there that aren't tomato based. You and guest should be pretty big fans of vinegar though. I know it's typically used more for pork but you may be able to get creative with a recipe. Plus it's fat free!

check that link out. my wife and i make it all the time, just the right amount of tangi-ness and a bit of pepper spice but nothing that is over the top. I'm not positive, but it seems pretty low fat, and no tomato! -
How about a teriyaki marinade?
Here is one I made and used on flank steaks but it would probably be as good on chicken. I would marinate as long as you have time for.
1 1/2 C Teriyaki Sauce
8 T Dark Brown Sugar
4 T Cider Vinegar
2 T Granulated Garlic
1/2 T Tabasco Chipotle sauce
. . . and nuked for a minute to work the flavors a little. Some of my ingredients were cold from the frig and needed a little warming up. The amount of the Tabasco sauce was not enough to make it hot at all, you may want to add more.

1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix ingredients together and refrigerate for at least 8 hours before using. Brush lightly over chicken, turkey or pork during the last few minutes of grilling. I made a chimichurri sauce yesterday, no tomato, but I think it'd be a bit strong for chicken..._____________

There are plenty of good mustard based sauces at the grocery store. At least here. They are most excellent. Especially on BBQ.
