Here our excuse for missing Athens :( Ya'll have mucho fun cooking and socializing...
Wish we could be there
I had to attend a company meeting in Las Vegas, so we decided to drive there. We stayed on Rte 66 as much as possible on the way to Vegas and met some very interesting people and ate at some very good local eateries.
Here are the some pic of of the first day of the road trip home. All snow pics taken from moving car, moving slowly at times, but still moving. Thanks for looking.
Get your kicks on Rte 66

Colorado on the back side of Hoover Dam

Dusting just past Seligman AZ (BTW Lilo’s Western Café has very good food across the street from the Roadkill Café)

At 6970 ft near white out conditions

I wish I could bottle this up and take the moisture back to Austin

On the downside about 30 mi form Flagstaff AZ

BTW this was all Lloyds fault. He took the MDX to the Acura dealer in Vegas to have the oil changed. The Acura dealer always washes and vacuums the car before returning it to the customer.

Nice Pics. Brings back a lot of memories, I got caught in Flagstaff in a storm like 40+ yrs ago. Driving a VW beetle with wife and ten month old son in the car. We spent three days in a motel before we could get out of the mountains.

Now that was really a hardship. That sixty's VW had terrible heaters.
We tried to get off the road, but no vacancies to be found, so we had to truck on to our reserved spot in Gallup NM. When I checked in late last night the desk clerk said was worried and tried to call us several times, but the calls never went thru.
We pretty much stayed tucked behind the snow plow all the was down. This morning there is a light dusting.Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx -
You are so right, our bug was a '66, virtually no heater at all. We were moving west to seek our fortune. Traveled all the way from the Cincinnati area to Las Vegas in that thing with a cartop rack on the roof which sounded like a pipe organ all the time. We were loaded down and the poor little car would hardly pull itself up the mountains. I remember the motel was next door to a Jack-in-the-box and that was about all we had to eat for those three days. Interstates were under construction and nowhere near complete either.
I'm glad I'm not young anymore [at least not that young] -
Yea, we were talking about things we did in our youth that we would now classify as stupid...But we had fun.
We got trapped on the PA turnpike on our way up to Ft Dix in 69. Howard Johnson had a monopoly on the pike and in order to come into the restaurant and get warm you had to buy something off their menu. Lloyd ordered a coke which was served in an almost shot glass and they charged him 4 dollars. We have never set foot in another Howard Johnson.
We were driving a 67 Malibu and at least it had pep and a good heater. :laugh:Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx
