Shopping at the Club stores?

we are a member of Sams club and in fl it is not to bad at the store we shop down there, but here in Maine it is awful. I have been to Sam's twice since we got home last month and the meat is just not worth it. in the grocery stores Maine is either organic high end or prepackaged junk. we have a RD card but the closest to us in New England is 4.5 hours away down by Boston.. that is a long day for meat... no costco's either up here, one in NH but 4 hours away.. we do have a BJ's though about an hour away. any of you shop there? or have checked out the meat counter? I know you can go in and look around with out purchasing anything but to far to just go if it is not worth it. and I know like anything they are all different. just wondering basic feedback.

The BJs went out of business here in Atlanta I think. Might want to check and see before driving.
Is there anything else near the RD that you would want to visit? Maybe make a weekend out of it. The RD down here will give you freezer packs to use in their containers(which I think you have to buy, but can't remember). -
we have a great farmer just a couple of miles from us that raise lowline Angus. and for years we have done just that. for beef and pork. or it is nice to go out to the farm and go through the freezer, as they sell by the pound to not just the half or whole. but like right now we got home and it is just the dregs and thin steaks left ... couple of weeks till they butcher again. and we are big chicken eaters and liked getting the cases of boneless thighs and tenders to package up for the freezer.

I really like BJs
They did close (or are planning to close) a few of the BJ Wholesale stores here in Atlanta, and nationwide there were several closures, but I think there are still quite a few open. I haven't been in a couple years. The one I used to go to had a pretty good meat selection, but really not any better or worse than Costco in terms of selection or price. -
Is there a question in there or just 6 sentences of complaints about club stores and none being in yankeeville

Hi Julie, looks to me like you are coming up with more & more reasons to move to Florida permantly  :P

touche' Gene it does sound awful... yes 6 lines that run on and into each other and griping. :pinch: can you tell I am having a bad day Sorry to spout on here about it
-
yes Rod I am sure you do......

The BJ's in Woodstock, GA is still open and doing well from what I can tell. I was there a little over 2 weeks ago, buying a 3-pack of back ribs as well as some wings. The selection and quality are comparable to Costco IMO.

Well, I decided not to point out your capitalization errors but since you mentioned the run on sentences, I guess it is OK

Brat :S

I just wish they had one closer. The nearest one is about 15 miles, while I have Sam's and Costco both within a couple miles.

I love it up here but it is 40 min to anything. And 2.5 to Portland. FL really spoils me with everything so handy.

I told you so! :P
:woohoo: -
Well you are a brat too :S

Now, now, be nice. Besides more and better stores nearby, think of the freash fish at your doorstep and best of all, think of all the eggers close by, LC & Bubbatim, Poot & Sabrina, Pat, Jupiter Jim, Faith, Al, Me, and let's not forget Richard! Lots more too!
It is only a matter of time!  -
Hi Julie,
The last time I was in Bangor I stopped into Sams, I could not believe how bad it was,no meats at all. Up here I just do my shopping at Hanaford (Shop and Save), the quality is good the selection not so good. -
"close by" :woohoo:

Hi Julie
The BJ's down here has the least desirable meat, the cuts are wimpy. Sam's is probably our best bet. I have not shopped Costco.
I found this site on line . . .
http://www.eatwild.com/products/maine.html
The Meadowsweet Farm listed is not far from you.
THIS source may more farms listed in your area.
You don't know anything about this do you??? "Beefalo reported missing in Ellsworth"
Good luck,
Blair

there's store here in PA that has nice meats.... and great prices on everything.....it's called "the Mainesource".where chef's shop....... i'm assuming there's one in Maine..... unless it's a clever marketing thing....rr

i think it's a company called Maines (with no connection to the state of Maine)--a distribution/logistics company that has branched into operating a few "retail/wholesale" stores.
i have seen their trucks often on the interstate and always assumed it was just a freight company.
