I'm a fan of Cin Chili dry mix, but have never tried her Ready To Eat products. They are having a big sale now which makes me think they might be dumping the line. I have a friend who makes a killer dip using canned chili of all things, but I wonder about substituting the RTE Cin Chili. Maybe I'll have to try it, but just curious.

Hi Ron,
My wife is a Cincinnati native and was weaned on Skyline Chili, as were her brothers and sisters, children and now grandchildren  I can't stand the stuff
It ain't chili! It contains cinnamon and chocolate for heaven's sake! It ain't chili!
That being said, the dip you can make from it is very good. My wife keeps the frozen stuff on hand and eats it frequently, as do visiting grandchildren. She even buys it out of the Publix freezer dept down here. I still hate it
Enough ranting on my part, I can assure you that the company is stable and secure, it is a Cincinnati institution.
:P -
Ron, we met Cindy at the fiery foods show. At the time she was just coming out with that product. She was extremely proud of it so I'm guessing its good. She is a two time world's champion chile cook and I doubt she would put her name on it if it wasn't good. She said she reads the forum from time to time. -RP

Skyline chili dip is always a big hit at parties. But I'm only 1hr south of cincy so everyone in lex has heard of Skyline Chili.Large & MiniMax in Lexington, KY

Thanks, Randy - I know we're talking about the same Cin (Cindy Reed).Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Thanks Tim - I may take you up on that offer as an alternative to Cin Chili products out of Houston, TX.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Same gal but she called herself Cindy Wilkins. -RP

LOL - the dip my friend makes uses a really cheap brand of canned chili, but he seldom is seen eating any of it which has always made me suspicious! :laugh:Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I think they are mistaking Cin Chili for Cincinatti style chili.
As for the pre-made stuff - never tried it, but I agree that their spice mix makes a pretty good batch. -
We may be talking about different places Ron. Skyline [and Gold Star, and Dixie} are old line Cincinnati Chili joints. Skyline is by far the biggest, they have a zillion resturants around the Cincy, Northern KY area. Make no mistake, they are fast food places, ever order chili w/ sphegetti and cheese at a drive thru??
They have expanded, franchised, and moved into the supermarket arena, so I am assuming theirs is the product you are talking about. If you have something different, it is probably a copy. I still hate it  -
hmmmm, I was going by the back of the package I have in front of me which says HISTORY: Cindy Reed is the ... ,but when you pull up her site it adds the other name. Guess we both are right! BTW it just so happens I'm making a pot of chili tomorrow for supper and for "make aheads"! I thought I still had some pint bags of it in the freezer, but I guess this winter took its toll! What a GREAT and HANDY make ahead lunch to be able to throw into a pot of water and bring to temp!

yes we are talking 2 different things and with the list of wins Cindy has to her credit I don't think she ripped off anybody in Ohio!

Funny as crap...
Can anyone read?
I love her chili mix as a starter but have not tried the Ready made stuff.
I can pick one up Monday and give it a quick try.
We are off early in the morning to OKC.
Take care,

Hey Darian, have a great time in OKC! Wish we were going. :( -RP

And I quote.....
"Chili concocted outside of Texas is usually a weak, apologetic imitation of the real thing. One of the first things I do when I get home is to have a bowl of red. There is simply nothing better."
- Lyndon B. Johnson (1908-1973)
"Congress should pass a law making it mandatory for all restaurants serving chili to follow a Texas recipe."
- Harry James, Bandleader and Trumpeter (1916-1983)
"I don't even think you told the mexican boys you were having a contest. That's right, because a mexican boy would come up here with a goat and an onion and kick your A$$!"
- Ron "Tater Salad" White; comedian referencing his discussion with a Skyline Chili employee's claim that Cincinnati is "the chili capital of the world."
Sorry, couldn't resist a little chili humor. -
Yeah but Cin Chili is out of Houston.-RP

I wish you were going as well.

You can't ride home on a bowl of goat. I've always said that.
