Simple question -- what charcoal do you use and where do you buy it? I live in Anderson Township. Thanks.

I'm not from your area and have NOTHING to gain by my suggestion here, but I see you have at least two GFS stores in Cincinnati and actually 4 more within a 25 mile radius. They sell their private label lump which is made and packaged for them by Royal Oak. At least here in IL the price is GOOD!
Use this store finder:

Kroger brand lump charcoal is Royal Oak, same as BGE.

Royal Oak available at Wal Mart, year round this past winter. Krogers has an expanded variety also this spring. Have not tried any yet. Lowes and Home Depot also have Cowboy lump available. I stick with RO.

Resteraunt Depot has a good price on Royal Oak if you can get in. Like Ron said GFS is a good source of RO as well as Walmart. Humphreys can be had at Alro Steel up in Dayton. A bit of a drive if your getting less than a truck load. You might try to see if someone carries Humphreys down that way. Made in PA and really good stuff.

Great information. Thanks all. I just got my Egg last summer (large) and am still learning. Any other procurement tips? I get my chickens at Heist at Findlay Market. I get baby backs at Charles Bare Meats at Findlay, or Sam's Club, if I'm lazy. Where do you get pork shoulders?

I'm generally lazy and go to Sam's or Resteraunt Depot if I'm not being lazy. I also like Cubs in Dayton for chicken. It is not that pumped up on steriods Tyson suff that three pieces fills a large Egg
