Condensation inside dome thermometer

Has anyone ever had condensation form under the glass of the dome thermometer? Mine appeared a couple of weeks ago when the egg was too hot to put the cover on later that night. I believe it rained that night, too. Does anyone know if this will effect the accuracy. And how, or can I, get this moisture out of it? I would have thought over time and use that it would have evaporated, but not yet anyway.

My thermometer also has condensate under the glass. I just checked cal last week and temp reading was within 1degee of expected. Condensate does not appear to effect the accuracy but it is difficult to read.
I have tried several tricks I have used in the lab but so far no luck.

Drill a small hole at the bottom of the thermometer.

Work great, condensation will disappear within few days / cooks and never reappear. Did mine last fall and never had problem since.

More information from a previous thread…. even has a small illustration.

I just spin mine. one way then quickly stop it...(I don't have the bracket on the inside, so it will spin freely..

  • Thanks to everyone who responded. I knew I would get the help I was looking for! I chose the "hole in the bottom" solution. I'll have to schedule some downtime with the egg so I can do it. We had an outstanding pizza last night using a homemade crust and used the extra dough to make breadsticks. Unbelievable! I told my wife I should have taken it to our local "brick oven" pizza place and show them what a real brickoven pizza should look like, because their crust is never crisp. Right now I have a couple of beerbut chickens and a pork loin (for Sunday brunch) on the egg now. My large usually gets a real workout everyweek. Guess I'll have to learn to use Photobucket and get some pics posted to share our goodness from the egg! :P
