where are you located? I've never heard of a burn ban before. next week will be here before you know it
context is important

We get burn bans here, but never had one that included grilling. The city officials that decided this must cook with gas.
-
Maybe they realize that some of us use weedburners to lite our grills
-
Must be a serious fire danger. We have had an occasional burn ban in the fall or winter but it has never included a grill. That is a bummer.

Sorry Chris, never heard about it, but something comes to my mind, why don't you invite the officers who declared it for a meal on the egg??

In Virginia, when they have a burn ban in place, you can still use a charcoal grill *if* you place a wire mesh grate above the coals, with openings no greater than 1/4".
You may want to check with your department of Forestry, to see if there are such exceptions.
Edit: Looked at Oklahoma's website, and it appears they have county-based bans in-place, as opposed to a state-wide Governor-declared ban. The rules are listed by county. Not knowing yours, I couldn't go any further in my research, but it appears most have exceptions in place for gas and charcoal grills (as long as they're at least 5ft from combustible vegetation):

Hey Chris,
What part of Okla you live. I'm down here in Lawton, we have burn bans all the time...its never stopped me from grilling. The egg is pretty safe if you keep lid down, which I always do. Anyway, you coming to OKC eggfest next month? Hope to see you there. -
Thanks checked with local Fire Chief and he said no grilling.

and yes the wife and I are coming and are looking forward to putting faces to the names on the forum. I am looking forward to meeting you. -

Chris, I don't believe the bans include grilling, or as the state puts it "outdoor cooking". A month or so back, some fool decided to grill hotdogs for his grand kids and wound up burning a few hundred acres, going north from HWY 105 in Logan county. The fire came within 1/8 of some land I own in that area. It might be legal and not-smart all at the same time. This has gone on so long my poor eggs don't remember what I look like, but I'm not going to be the "fool on the evening news".
We did get a sprinkle today for all of 30 seconds!
