Domestic vs Mediterranean Sardines?

I saw fresh "domestic" sardines at our local seafood store and tried my hand at grilling them. They were sooo good and easy to grill at 500F for about 3 minutes per side.
The store owner told me he could get Mediterranean sardines in but they cost $3 more per pound. I might take him up on it.
Does anybody know the diffence between the two?
Thanks!

In Europe they are "Sardines," in this country they are "Bait." :P

Some will debate you on that..

The Mediterranean ones get free healthcare and only work 35hrs a week so they are a bit more expensive...
