Stainless cart

There is a brilliant young man in my county who does wonders with Stainless Steel. He did the diamond diner style wall covering for my kitchen, but he also makes hot dog carts. Not that there is a demand for hot dog carts in Beaver Falls, PA. But I asked him to come and design a cart for my mini and medium. I'd use the same dimensions for the opening as the BGE table. I want a storage drawer and shelves below the eggs. Any suggestions or pictures you can offer? Plus one friend showed a concern for the table getting too hot. I'm egging right now and it doesn't seem that hot on the outside, but it's still winter. Any ideas on that?
Thanks. I know you'll come thru.

I'd like a wood table plan something under the Egg. Maybe a cut portion of one of those fireproof mats that you can get. For around the Egg itself on the table top you could use some gasket material. to insure the ceramic does not come in contact with the table top if it is a table that moves and the Egg may shift.

Sounds like your gonna have a nice table.

    Hi Patty,
You might want to go on the Naked Whiz site and look at his photo gallery of egg tables. Most of them are wood, but your guy should be able to adapt something you like to steel. As for the heat issue, I don't think you will have a problem. You want to be sure you have plenty of clearance on your hole cut-outs and I would still use a paver and the feet under the egg.
Basic dimensions/clearances, etc are on the BGE site as well as Naked Whiz.
    See you in Melbourne :)

    Hi PattyO,
Having read the reply by Capt. Frank about the hole for the egg/eggs you might be sure to check the dimensions of the hole and height of the shelf the egg will sit on.

Depending on how old your egg is and which band you have, be sure they are right. Just a thought as I have a Med. and Sm. with the spring hinge and my large has the old style locking hinge.

    Good Luck,

I was going to use the dimensions of the hole and shelf, and with pavers and feet under the eggs.
    Thanks

    Hi Frank
I looked at his site and only saw two ideas, and not what I want. Can't wait for Melbourne. Are you cooking? I want to get the lay of the land before I cook there. Logistics in getting food and utensils when I'm flying.

My 4 sit on the ground but I remember a post about the numbers or a cutout being different depending on the band. I'm sure someone that has made a table will jump in at some point to help you. Just wanted to give you a heads up Before the table is made.

Patty, My thoughts- think about the sun hitting the table surface. Absorbing heat and the reflection. Other than that it should work out just fine. Also, maybe warping from hot pans, ect. Depending on the gauge of the steel.

    Molly,
Good thought about the reflection, can you think of what that would be like here in AZ??? I don't know where Patty is but sun is sun. You are so right on the heat thing also. Not only maybe from the egg but from the sun if it is in it most of the day.

Few years back I decided that the table top for my large was to be covered in that diamond pattern stainless steel, like in truck tool boxes. so I went ahead and had the top covered, after about 3 months I removed it as the morning sun hit it from sun up 'til noon and when i was cooking the glare was not EGGceptable. So that metal is now on the bottom of my table and works fine.

I have on of those tool boxes in the back of my Ranger and if you're standing outside looking at it in the sun you can hardly see anything.

Sometime when driving and looking in the rear view mirror the glare is terrible. :(

Good thought about the reflection and heat. I know from my experience with my stainless steel gasser, I can't get anywhere near touching the surface of the cart, once the sun has been hitting it for any length of time in the summer. I've literally blistered a couple of fingertips on it.

Now I have eggs with homemade wood tables, so instead of worry about the table burning me, I have to worry about burning the tables.
