What is the best rib rack to fit in a medium (is there a brand or manufacturer), so you can fit 2 full rib racks once you cut them in half.

    Hey Prime

I use a BGE large V rack inverted.

See at the bottom of this page.

It holds 3 full racks cut in half. I have never used it such but I believe to use it as a V rack you may have to take out the fire ring and put the plate setter on top of the fire box to get the lid to close.

My typical set up for baby back ribs.

I watch my ribs and turn and rotate as needed for uniform doneness. You can see the tabs of foil I use on the food grate to help disperse heat coming up between the plate setter legs. These foil tabs look about as large as I would make them, even a little smaller would do fine. Plate setter is wrapped in foil to keep it clean and has a drip pan.

For a drip pan I use a cheap disposable round serving tray which is also covered in foil slightly beyond the edges to make it fit the plate setter a little better and make it reusable.

BGE makes two racks, one for the large, XL and one for the small, medium. You know which one you need.

    Hi Phil

I buy my baby back's at Sam's, 3 full racks to the package. The thick side of the ribs is sometimes a tight fit in the large inverted V rack. I have a short pair of tongs so I can get a good grip on the ribs so I have good leverage and control when moving them. I would think a rack any smaller would complicate the issue further. Even if I never use the rack for anything else the large is ideal on the medium for doing baby backs. Any roast I do on the food grate. The perfect setup for ribs would be to buy a large or XL BGE. :cheer:

The problem is the large rack does not fit in the medium egg. Verified.
  • LMAO! That is right! Pigs, cows whatever! Nice set up, I guess that is the BGE rib rack. I was just wondering if there is an off brand that is better. Does the lid close ok?

I got a "Master Forge Chrome potato and rib rack" at Lowe's a few years ago, works great on the Medium. Still available, $7.44.
  • BGE Makes a rib rack for the medium...it is slightly smaller.

I must be doing something terrible wrong! I have even provided photos of the large rack in my medium. As a V rack w/plate setter it will not fit. Inverted as a rib rack it will fit, please see photos. Unless they have changed the size of the large rack recently it will and does fit. I find it a tight fit to get the ribs in the large rack and think a small would be useless. Just my opinion. :)

Yup, lid closes fine configured as you see it. I have done many baby back ribs this way. :)

Yup a large V rack with plate setter will not fit. That is the problem. A small V rack with plate setter will fit and does 3 racks on a medium just fine.

Correct! a large V rack with plate setter will not fit. Invert the V rack to use as a RIB rack and it works just fine and there is no problem. I suggest that you provide photos of your own showing how well it will not fit on a medium BGE. Do you even own a medium BGE?

Your basic Weber rib rack works just fine. It's what I use in my medium.

Calphalon makes a roasting rack that fits the medium either for a roast or inverted for ribs. Perfect.

No I don't have a medium but my friend does and he was a little upset the large V rack did not work with the plate setter. He bought the small v rack and all is well.
