Best Coffee Chili Rub for Beef
quickdraw
Posts: 15
Last weekend, I did something that I rarely do. I ate a steak at a restaurant. It had a coffee & chili rub. It was one of the best steaks I've eaten. (Even better than I cook!)
What are your favorite rubs that feature coffee & chili?
I found this one:

Any improvements / key ingredients?

Here is a wet rub that I made last year that was very good: (full link is here: http://www.nibblemethis.com/2010/11/espresso-yourself-steaks-spinach-mashed.html)
1 tsp Marx Foods espresso sea salt
1 tsp dried chilies, ground
2 large cloves garlic, minced
2 Tbsp parsley, finely chopped
1 Tbsp olive oil
Here's another one that I want to try. Curt used this marinade and rub to make it to the regional finals of the Berringer Great Steak contest in 2010:

Thanks to all. Porterhouse steaks are on special. I'll give you a review!

What is the idea behind a coffee rub? Is coffee supposed to do something chemically that enhances flavor or is it just a fancy thing to do these days?

DP Red Eye Express is great for steaks.
