Simple steak and a new puppy?

After all the rich food of the holidays, we were both craving a steak, baked tater & a salad. So that is what we had tonight. Costco prime NY Strip, slathered with mustard and Montreal seasoning. Put on a very hot grill with the grid on the coals.

For about a minute per side.

We split the steak, with a baked tater & salad and a wonderful bottle of Cupcake Vineyards red table wine.

We went to a New Year's Eve party and a friend mentioned a little white dog that needed a home. One of his employees had found her on a job site. They brought her over Saturday night and we fell in love. We are thinking she is a cockapoo, less than a year old. We have an appointment at the vet tomorrow. We named her Bella, the sweetest little thing, though our two cats don't think so yet. Any advice on getting cats to except a new dog????

Teresa:
I asked my granddaughter how they handled the same situation, and this is what she said, for a new kitty, though:
"Well, when you get a new cat you put them on opposite sides of a door (new kitty in room) and let them smell the scents for a while, then put them separated by a baby gate so they can kinda meet, then finally if they're calm put them together and observe..."
The above Siamese cat wants nothing to do with the frolicking young Newfoundland, and maintains an icy indifference. Stays out of the dog's way. Doesn't matter, they both get plenty of love.
You are so lucky to get that sweetheart!

Great looking meal Teresa

She has amazing eyes

Teresa your stake looks great especially like the grill shot but you know I LOVE the dog!
God bless ya for taking in the little one. She's a little doll and from the pics appears to be fairly socialized as her tail is natural for the pics and doesn't seem really stressed. Good. The cats and her will work it out. Just watch that they do not get her eyes till she's had a few days to figure out that when they have had enough they have had enough. Every dog is different but most young dogs will terrorize a cat but most cats enjoy it for a short play time after they trust the dog and when they have had enough they know how to end the game!!!

Hold the dog and pet the cat. Good dog, good cat. Hold the cat and pet the dog. Good dog, good cat. All in a calm voice. Give treats and repeat. Need that physical connection, like an electric circuit. Touch each, that lets them know that you are the leader of the pack and if it's good with you, it's good with them to accept each other. Do not push their faces into each other.

ditto about the eyes - happened to a family pet when I was young and I felt guilty. (Puppy didn't seem as bothered as me mind you!).

T Fluff - Bella is too cute.
With a french name and the black eyes and nose, maybe Bella is a Bichon Frise or part Bichon.
Bella may be related to Petite and Jolie.

That could make us related, like "Dogs-in-laws" or fifteenth cousins or something like that.

She is adorable Ross! I think I picked up Cupcake at Costco, going back to get more.

I believe what you have there is a Coton, or Coton de Trulear. They are from Madagascar and a cross between a terrier and Bischon. Very good dogs, hard to believe someone would abandon her.
-
Judy, thanks for asking your daughter for me! I know it will take time.
-
Thanks Deane! We feel lucky to have got her. Have a baby gate up on the door of my office. We'll see if that helps. Can't wait for the day my pets sit in the same room, let alone lay down next to each other!

She does kind of look like a Bichon. Love their little jackets. I took one look at her and said, that is Bella.

teresa congrats on the cute puppy and great job on a rescue pet.I love that wine also!!
GOOD EATS AND GOOD FRIENDS
