Pizza on the plate setter?

I own the extra large egg and a baking stone is like $75. Can the plate setter be used for pizza as it seems to be a very similar material?
Thanks
Thanks

You can cook on the platesetter but the direct heat from below on the platesetter can cause your platesetter to get much hotter than you might want. Could burn your bottom crust before the rest of your pie is cooked.
You don't have to use the XL size pizza stone.
Any size pizza stone can be used on your inverted XL platesetter. I still use a set of BGE feet or other spacers between the pizza stone and platesetter.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
A large BGE pizza stone will cook a 16" pie. Just buy the large stone and save a few bucks....btw
Bobby Q (Executive Chef at BGE) puts his platesetter feet up...then a regular cooking grate on the platesetter then the BGE pizza stone on the cooking grate, then the pie on the stone...just an fyi...

That's very interesting. What temp does he cook at?

I do mine the same way as Bobby Q. It seems to come out the best for me. I cook at 550*.
-
Yep I believe Bobby cooks about the same 450-550 depending on the type of pie, toppings, etc...

My large pizza stone is 14" have I been using a wrong size all these years?????

Your pizzas have been too small but I didn't want to say anything....LOL
but your sliders...mmmmmmmmmm

In all seriousness Wess is right. the BGE pizza stone is 14". I use this

for my pizzas so that is why my pies are almost 16"....

You can bake a pie directly on the plate setter (I did it once), but I think you will be much better off with a stone or even just a metal pan. And I would also advise an air space between the setter and the......What ever you use.
I haven't ever done the "air bake" thing that Kim brought us, but that too, look interesting.
