How do I Unassign Blower on Stoker?

This thing is aggravating me to death! I think the manual was written by Chinese robots, it was definitely not written by BBQ enthusiasts :S

Anybody got any idea how to un-assign the blower from a sensor? For some reason my blower is assigned to both my meat probe and my pit sensor so the blower will not quit running unless I turn the target temp on the meat probe down below the actual meat temp which completely defeats the purpose.

I know the asterisk next means the blower is assigned to that sensor, I can not make the asterisk go away no matter what I do.

Looking at the manual it states "Press the Sel button again to deselect the blower".

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

  • These videos should help you a lot. There are six on different topics related to Stoker setup.

Once you figure it out, you will be very happy with it.

Yeah, I saw that. I did it and the asterisk is still there when the temp scan is running but at least the blower seems to be only running off the pit probe. I guess that asterisk just never goes away?

Thanks! I think you just helped me decide. I watched part of one video. My eyes glazed over, my head started throbbing and I swear I heard someone in the background chanting, "buy a Guru, buy a Guru.........." :)

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Probably not a bad idea

The instructions that come with the Stoker are in bad need of a re-do. There is nothing actually explaining how to use it in plain English. It just drones on in computer nerd speak about what the buttons do and how the menus scroll.

Plugging it in and turning it on are even referred to as a "User Interface"

There are three cases where you might want to "unassign" a blower:

    1. You don't want a blower on the monitored pit - just unplug the blower .... problem solved.

    2. You want another probe assigned to the blower - so, go through the menus and assign that relationship.

    3. You have the blower on the pit, but you don't want to control it .... hmmmm that doesn't make a lot of sense :)

I have found when I turn on the stoker and I don't have a blower plugged in, it's assignment to the fire probe goes away .... even if I then turn off the stoker, plug the fan back in, and turn the stoker back on - even then the relationship is no longer present.

I think you are misunderstanding me.

My problem is that the blower is assigned to both the pit probe and the meat probe. I can't seem to figure out how to un-assign it from the meat probe or how to tell when it is un-assigned from said probe. The asterisk that the manual mentions is always present when scanning pit/meat probe temps even though the way I understand it, it should only show on the probe that is tied to the blower.

This device just seems unnecessarily complicated, so much so that even explaining what is going on is difficult

plug in the blower, pit, and meat probes. enter the temp control menu and scan for your pit probe. enter the probe setting menu by pressing select until it says "sensor 1 blower" (or whatever you renamed your pit sensor). press select twice until it says please wait. this will assign the blower to the pit sensor and not the food sensor. the blower can only be assigned to one probe at a time.

the asterisk when scanning is always present as you mention, but it is not the blower assignment indicator. the asterisk in the scan mode has nothing to do with the assignment of the blower to the probe.

check out the videos from rock's barbque (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QduRjOLWimU) or give them a call. they have walked me through setup a few times. it was confusing at first, but there is a bit of a learning curve. i also found the interface map in the manual to be helpful since i am a visual learner.

I share in everyone's frustration with the instructions, but I've gotta say once you have it set up this thing does exactly what they advertise it will do and it does it well.
  • And to think you could have had a Stoker that works instead.
